As a small lad growing up in Oxford, Ohio, the smell of rubber from Akron's active tire plants, back then, was a sure sign we were closing in on grandma and grandpa Crum's house in Youngstown Ohio. Home of the Goodyear air ships, and, despite their motto of "All roads lead to Akron", those roads also lead you away. Akron is a city of hard knocks, deep blue collar roots, solid people, and tough winter's. It does have some redeeming qualities, but as I type, I just can't really seem to recall them other than friends I know, who moved away. That said, the Zip's stadium is spiffy and relatively new. If it weren't for the University of Akron, Akron would be another blight, in a line of blight, among the old rust belt cities. I drive by the Zips stadium every time I head to visit family in NE Ohio.

Beating Akron will be no cake walk, and our guys had better be hungry for a win.

Weather trends for the game look pretty darn good. Sure taste of Fall will be Felt up in Ohio Land. Actually, this is one of the better times of the year to visit the NE region of Ohio. If your are headed up early enough, you may want to swing by the Pro Football Hall of Fame right there in Canton, Ohio. You'll drive right by it as you head to Akron. It will be on your left as you head North.

KICKOFF: Partly cloudy - mid 70s

HALFTIME: Partly cloudy - Mid to lower 70s

END OF GAME: Partly cloudy - Upper 60s.

No weather issues for the drive up or the return trip home.

Might advise, that after you cross the Ohio River into SE Ohio, the first rest area is pretty clean if you need something. After that, there ain't much until you close in on Canton, Ohio. Gas often runs cheaper around Wytheville, VA and then in Ohio. The Beckley rest area, Tamarak, is a way point if you need it in West By God Virginia; Starbucks, high gas prices, and a few other fast food places.
