It would be nice for people to use these statistics as the benchmark considering App has only truly begun playing with FBS instead of FCS recruits in some positions. I expect games against P5 teams will become less and less like the Miami game and closer to the Tennessee game as we move towards 2020.

Just remember, for those who want to be Boise State east, App is doing better than Marshall and Boise both at the same stage during their move-up.

I agree with your first paragraph. Second one not so much. Boise and Marshall had much tougher conferences and opponents when they moved up, and if you research you will see that Boise and Marshall did not do bad by their third (two eligible) season at the FBS level. Not to take anything away from our own accomplishments, but I don't think it's an accurate comparison. App State, when all is said and done will make it's own name for itself, however unlike Marshall and Boise, I want the momentum to keep going and going. Not go up and down as Boise and Marshall have over recent years. Both still good programs, but as a fan I want App to be even better.

Boise, yes. Marshall, not so much - they were 10-3 in year 1 and 12-1 in year 2. They're the only one that's really done better than us the first couple years, though.

Personally my hope for the program is that a "bad" season is 8-4 and that we never have one of those rebuild seasons where we fall apart and go 3-9. Obviously it can happen but hopefully we can maintain stability and just get better.

And to reverse my previous post - Marshall, yes; Boise - huh? They've won 10+ games in eight of the past 10 seasons (the other two they won 8 and 9). Seven of those 10 years they finished in the top 20. If that's up and down then sign me up.

We have started off better than Boise St. They jumped from 1-AA to 1-A in 1996. Remember this was also a time in which the transition was less strict when it came to transfers, I'm unsure if they took advantage of it like Marshall did.

Boise St. record their first four years:
2-10 (played 3 1-AA schools)
5-6 (2 1-AA schools)
6-5 (3 1-AA schools)
10-3 (2 1-AA schools)

Now they haven't really been down since this which is amazing.

App:
7-5 (2 FCS)
11-2 (1 -FCS)

We should not compare ourselves in any way to Marshall. Their early success was largely attributable to cheating. I give them no points for that.

Boise also played in the Big West from 1996 to 2001 which consisted of only 6 football members after the WAC took several teams. Those 6 teams were Boise, Utah State, Idaho, NMSU, North Texas, and Nevada. So their level of competition was less than what we face.

Theory of Relativity states that in football, you play and compete against the teams on your schedule. Relative success has been on a similar path for App as it occurred for Marshall and Boise. We can't forget that Marshall had Moss and Pennington to move up with.

Wins wise, you are correct. However the Boise State that many P5 teams feared to schedule is not the same Boise team today. That's what I mean by momentum. When you mention Boise State today, it sparks less conversation that close to 10 years ago. I want App State's name to always be highly talked about, and feared by P5 schools. But don't we all?!?

I remember the MAC being a joke when Marshall first joined. I'm not sure how you can say they were better than the current Sunbelt. The MAC has improved significantly (mostly in the last couple of years) and still isn't much better than the Belt except for some nice wins by a couple of programs (mostly Toledo).
