Anyone watched ULL this year?
Thoughts?
I haven't, but I know the injury bug has hit them and depth could be an issue.

Haven't seen the play, but was certainly surprised they dropped one to NMSU
Re: Anyone watched ULL this year?
Well, I have not seen them play, but I have lurked over on their message board.
The U La La faithful pretty much think App State will win this game. They are also at odds with their head coach over something. Probably over losing their last few games ... in overtime.
I see no reason to disappoint. Also, they appear to have announced a "white out" at the game Wednesday. Does this mean we get to wear all black? Please, please, please, oh please, let us wear black!!! It's our best color.

Re: Anyone watched ULL this year?
Their starting QB from last season, Brooks Haack, who App sacked six times, transferred to FCS.
They got LSU grad transfer Anthony Jennings the day before fall camp starts. He's been inconsistent to say the least. Talented, but his decision making is ugh.
Jennings got benched in each of their last two games in favor of Jalen Nixon, who was the QB who scored the late TD on App last season. Nixon broke his ankle overtime versus NMSU and his career is over, so they're stuck with Jennings.
The other QB from last season that App saw, Jordan Davis, is now the #2 QB and hasn't played this season.
Elijah McGuire, their star RB, was injured two games ago and was limited versus NMSU. Like Satterfield with Cox, Hudspeth won't say how well McGuire really is.
ULL has had injuries on both lines this season. Both their starting guards are redshirt freshmen. Might not get six sacks this season as Jennings is a better athlete than Haack, but he can throw up some ducks.
The Cajuns lost the Tulane game in four overtimes despite Tulane going 0 of 16 on third down and 0 of 1 on fourth down.

ULL could win this game, but if we are healthy, and keep our focus, I like our chances..............but remember, their coach was totally against us joining the league........beneath their level of football. However, this was the first Sun Belt game that I went to where ya could buy beer inside the stadium.........

This is the guy that makes approx. double what SS makes and was extremely vocal in expressing his displeasure at having to bus his team between Banner Elk and KBS last season. Beneath his dignity! He needs another dose of humility--administered by SS and the Apps tonite. That said, he'll have his team stoked.Gnomeneer wrote:ULL could win this game, but if we are healthy, and keep our focus, I like our chances..............but remember, their coach was totally against us joining the league........beneath their level of football. Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Not happy that Hud was quick to throw Jennings under the bus in a post game press conference. Also, some think that he's more interested in out lifting his team and how he looks in his undersized shirts

Re: Anyone watched ULL this year?
Yes, they self-imposed and the NCAA accepted them for the most part in January. A former assistant, who was fired two weeks before App played them in 2014, had directed prospective student-athletes to an ACT testing center in Mississippi where the person in charge of ACT's at that high school would alter scores for the players. The coach, Dave Saunders, also funneled around $6,500 to one players. This moral, upstanding coach still works in JuCo football and denied any wrongdoing. He got a lengthy NCAA ban. The finding absolved Hudspeth of knowledge of the cheating. They ended up vacating 22 wins from 2011-14, including two of their New Orleans Bowl victories (2011 and 2013) plus their win over Troy the week after losing to App. We don't know if they would have vacated the game vs App in 2014 if the Cajuns had won.hotrod2001 wrote:Didn't they face NCAA or Self-Imposed sanctioned this year too?
The Cajuns got 11 scholarships taken away over three seasons, with this being the first. They're on probation until January 2018.

Another way of putting it, is that they can ill afford to waste scholarships/miss on players. They are already playing at a disadvantage being down 11.T-Dog wrote:Yes, they self-imposed and the NCAA accepted them for the most part in January. Re: Anyone watched ULL this year?
They are, but the 11 number isn't as bad as it sounds since they're spread out over three seasons. I don't remember the exact breakdown, but they won't ever really be "down 11" - they'll just have a max of 81 or 82 instead of 85.Goapps15 wrote:Another way of putting it, is that they can ill afford to waste scholarships/miss on players. Two of their three losses have come in overtime. Their other loss is to Boise State. They beat USA who has beat MSU and SDSU.
They are two OT games away from being 4-1 (2-0) and in a nutshell, that speaks more to their potential and as a team looking to get over the hump.
