Hello all,
A group of us will be traveling to Boone for the TXST vs App St. game. We will be there Friday and Saturday; so we want to take the town in as much as possible. We would appreciate suggestions to any restaurants, bars, and local spots around town.
Thanks!

Plenty should chime in soon.
One of my favorite food places is Black Cat (burritos, nachos, etc). Good beers.
Mellow Mushroom is good, though it is a chain resturant. Pizza and subs/etc. Plenty of beers on tap.
Woodlands BBQ is good, in Blowing Rock (10 min drive). And yes BBQ around here is pulled pork.
I'll let others speak to the bars, I'm not in that scene anymore up there.
Safe travels.

Correction to the above: BBQ around here is Chopped! None of that pulled business!
The must go to place is Appalachian Mountain Brewery. Get an amazing beer and one of the best pizzas you'll ever have from the Farm 2 Flame food truck

Grandfather Winery
App Mountain Brewery
Woodlands BBQ
Proper is amazing (restaurant in old jail was featured in Our State magazine)
Foggy Rock in Blowing Rock has best Cheesesteaks
Lost Province is a good place for pizza and beer
Capones has the best Chicago deep dish pizza
Of course you'll want to hit up the parkway
Head up to Howard's Knob too to get a breathtaking view of Boone and campus!

Welcome!
Lots of good places to eat & drink. Two of my favorites: Lost Paradise Brewery (wood fired pizza oven & really good beer)- near the Courthouse, and Makoto's Japanese Steakhouse on US321S towards Blowing Rock. My family has been going to Makoto's after ballgames since the late 1980s.
Wear your colors! And, you will be welcome anywhere!
Also, assuming a 3:30 kickoff, (when do they announce the time?) tailgaters will begin around 9:00 am. Come on & visit all.
Good luck! And, I hope you enjoy everything but the ball game.

Highly recommend Grandfather Vineyards, about 8 miles west of Boone on Hwy 105! and long range weather looking good for 3:30 KO.

As for gameday fare, just wear your colors and be polite. You'll have more to eat than you can manage. Game time has been announced as 3:30, so there will be plenty of time to enjoy tailgating.
IMO - any of the chain restaurants are, well, chain restaurants, though I do enjoy Mellow Mushroom food, beer, and ambiance. I like Boone Bagelry or Sunrise Grill for breakfast. Cafe Portofino is a good one for either lunch or dinner. We're also in the beer belt that runs from Asheville up through Boone. The craft beer scene here is amazing. Appalachian Mountain Brewery is a fun stop.
http://www.downtownboonenc.com/ has some good info on downtown Boone.
http://www.exploreboone.com/things-to-d ... y-parking/ has information on gameday parking. If you want to be close to campus (on campus actually), I recommend parking at First Baptist Boone. Their parking lot is right beside the Library Parking Deck and an easy walk to the stadium.
http://www.appstatesports.com/ViewArtic ... =204982664 gives you the scoop on gameday rules and regs.
Make sure you've got comfortable walking shoes ... everything is uphill.

Welcome to Boone!

This thread is a great example of what I love about Appalachian and Yosef's Cabin.
Welcome to Boone Bobcat fans and we hope you love your time in God's Country.

My wife and I love the Peddlin Pig. Comeback shack is a great local fast food restaurant. If nothing else you guys need to try Appalachia cookie company! They have the best cookies. They sell them at the game but it is best to order some and pick them up when they are hot! Also, as others have stated take a drive on the blue ridge parkway. I recommend stopping by Moses Cone manor. You should also take a walk on King Street and shop the local shops.

A day trip to Grandfather Mountain (About 15 minutes up Hwy 105) would be worthwhile, weather permitting.

Comeback Shack has the best burgers in town even for a "fast food" place.
AMB has great beer and the pizza from their wood fired oven food truck are fantastic.
Black Cat Burritos, Sun Rise Grill, Dan'l Boone Inne, & Peppers are all really good as well.
You also can't visit the area without going up on the parkway and heading south towards grandfather mountain. Hope you have a great and safe trip!

Woodlands BBQ is a must.
Appalachian Mountain Brewery is strongly recommended.
We tailgate in the Music Lot and always look for visiting colors!

I always have to put in a plug for Murphy's, as long as you allow plenty of time for slow service. Great burgers, good beer selection, and especially Murphy's cheese fries. If you sit in the bar you can watch all the early or late games. And you can easily walk to/from the game. It's kind of a dive but one of my faves since I was in school.
For breakfast/brunch, try Boone Bagelry or Hob Nob.

Depending on time and budget...The GameKeeper outside of Boone is an incredible place...serving all kinds of game meat. $$$. Also not as expensive but great is Bistro Roca in. Blowing Rock.

ComeBack is good, but the Cardinal has the best burger in Boone now.

I think anyone new to Boone has to go to Daniel Boone Inn. I love that place! Some don't like it though. Peppers is good for sandwiches. If you are up to a little longer drive, Banner Elk winery is the best in the area. They have an awesome fire pit that you can sit and drink the really good wine. The cheese fries at Murphys are to die for.

A bit of useful info on Daniel Boone. They have take out boxes. Dinner box - two pieces of chicken, two sides, two ham biscuits and a dessert. Lunch box- same minus ham biscuits. $7.50 and $6.50. Dinner box is way more than most people want to eat. The line can be around the building and you can call in a box and walk in and get it. Both available any time of day. My daughter turned me on to this little known tidbit.

Welcome to App! If you are in town Friday, a visit to Blowing Rock, a small resort town 10 minutes away, can be fun. Walk around Main Street. Get some fudge at Kilwin's. Looks like weather may be good, so lunch or happy hour at Canyons Bar with an extraordinary view of our Blue Ridge Mountains on the outdoor deck. I'd vote for supper at Gamekeeper ($$$). Gamekeeper is located on one of our many narrow mountain roads, so drive carefully. And our local law officers occasionally enjoy traffic stops along the road, so have a designated driver!! Another good choice in town is Best Cellars.
Saturday is game day and that means Boone! Start early, maybe have NC Country Ham and Redeye gravy and biscuits for breakfast at Dan'l Boone Inn (or a biscuit from Bojangles, a local NC based fast food joint). then walk on King Street (Boone's Main Street), visit Mast General Store. Time to walk across campus and visit some tailgates. Get inside Kidd Brewer Stadium in time to see the Marching Mountaineers pre game show. And enjoy the game (other than the final score). Post game, take in a local brewery! Safe travels, glad you're coming! Go Apps!
