I would guess so. We've played a game tonight and they haven't.biggie wrote:Right now we lose to Troy.

We just out scored Southern 34-0 for 3 quarters and you say this? We are way better than Troybiggie wrote:Right now we lose to Troy.

GS is down I expected to win fairly easy tonight. Still extremely happy. Just worried about tougher competition to come.

without a doubt it will have to be 4 full quarters against Troy. We take one off, like we did tonite and we are toast.diehardapp18 wrote:We just out scored Southern 34-0 for 3 quarters and you say this? We are way better than Troybiggie wrote:Right now we lose to Troy.

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
Defense played lights out and our oline just wore GS out. Our passing game continues to struggle outside of Meadors.
Our defense works when we get pressure and they did that last night.
Troy has given up one sack all year and have a big RB they like to run up the gut. To beat Troy we'll have to score 35, I'm not sure our offense can to that versus their front seven. We only beat Troy if Lamb plays more like last year.
I enjoyed the beat down last night and look forward to getting better the next 16 days.

Troy will be tough, Silvers makes quick decisions in the pocket and has a quick release. It will be hard to sack him, but we better be able to put some pressure on him to make bad decisions. If we make the mistakes we me made last night we will have a hard time to win. They had us on the ropes last year and took us to OT. This is definitely a battle for the championship.

They may be a very good team, but they caught us on an off day. Silvers can be very good but he only throws fastballs, if he is off they struggle to move the ball.

It was a beautiful sight, especially watching the GSU fans leaving in droves early in the 4th qtr. Those of us that were there represented!

The main reason Troy doesn't give up sacks is they throw so many short quick passes. Their OL is good, but the scheme makes them appear to be even better.Saint3333 wrote:Defense played lights out and our oline just wore GS out. Our passing game continues to struggle outside of Meadors.

I don't think Taylor played poorly last night minus the 2nd pick which was an under thrown ball into bracketed coverage. First pick was on the WR who didn't get his hands up in time.
We had one bad qrt which to me was more about playing a rivalry game on the road on a short week than anything else. After that we looked the part of a conference leader. Two more weeks until we decide it for real.

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
Before our 2nd string defense came in, we had 4 guys with more individual yards than GaSo's entire offense. Also, at one point, we had 34 points to GaSo's 55 yards. Late 4th quarter, I almost started pulling for them to score a touchdown, I felt so bad for them, then I remembered it was GaSo and changed my mind.

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
Meadors!! Kind of developing a Bro-crush on that guy! Awesome to see Cox (the beast) back and Moore has become so consistent. Our OL was SO dominant it was (almost) sad towards the end of the game as they pretty much took over the game...OMG, our defense is unbelievable. Stopping the run and the DB (& linebacker) bandits stealing balls in the air (15 now!!) and Mr. Duck...wow, we've got 3+ years left to watch that guy...OK, kinda of developing a bro-crush on him too!
Listen, if this team stays focused and puts away TX State, UL-M, and NM State as they should...that leaves Troy. Troy is a good team without a doubt BUT our schedule has been tougher and we're even (I'm not counting the Austin Peay game as they're a bad bad bad FCS team). The game in Troy is going to be a barn-burner but I think our guys (assuming we're relatively healthy) can take them. We need to have a good crowd down there to support them. It's a 7 hour drive for me and I'm trying to work it out to get down there...

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
That scheme of quick passes is trouble for our defense.
Lamb must improve and our WRs must catch the balls to take the next step as a team. The first INT was a combination of Lamb throwing slightly high and to the side of a RB playing WR. It wasn't a bad pass, but I wouldn't call it a good one either.
The second pick was a result of Lamb's arm strength and a bad read with three DBs around the WR. I don't think he ever saw #7 on what should have been another INT in the 3rd.
He throws a nice lob ball to Meadors and good slants (which 16 should have caught for a 1st). He doesn't throw as tight of a spiral on some throws.
Lamb is a good QB and the staff seems to understand the types of throws that work for him (he's pretty much Satterfield 20 years later, Satt would say a more athletic version). I don't think we run the ball enough with him, he's a very underrated runner, and makes great decisions (even that late pitch which reminded me of Satterfield actually).
We've seen this with other QBs in our past that start for 3-4 years. They breakout their sophomore year, flat their junior year and then make another jump their senior year. He's a great kid with time still to improve for us. He's going to be a great coach someday.

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
This was kind of my take as well. I would put the first pick more on Lamb than the WR, given that it was a pretty short throw to an open man. Lamb's had a couple INTs off tipped balls in those situations - but they were tipped because he didn't throw accurately.Saint3333 wrote: Lamb must improve and our WRs must catch the balls to take the next step as a team. The second one was high-risk, high reward. Most would say he shouldn't have thrown it, and maybe that's true, but if he leads the receiver just right it could have been a TD. Unfortunately, as you say, it was badly underthrown and an easy pick.
My impression is that Lamb needs to have his feet set, as he doesn't throw very accurately or consistently on the move.

Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
Agree on GS, though I didn't expect to beat them quite that badly. As for Troy, is it possible you're judging your own team more harshly than the competition? They struggled about like we did (except higher-scoring) with Ga. State and then barely escaped USA.biggie wrote:GS is down I expected to win fairly easy tonight. Still extremely happy. Re: We just smacked Georgia Southern in Statesboro
I'm starting to become more confused (that may not be the right word) by Taylor's arm strength each game. There are some deep balls he throws that look like a he has a legit strong arm and does a good job spinning it. There are others, like the pick last night, where the ball just floats and is underthrown and wobbly. I've also noticed a little more zip on slants, crossing routes and outs than I was used to seeing. Anyone else in agreement or am I making things up?
