I think Mack Brown stopped the "he who shall not be named" skid and also hired Sparky Wood. He wasn't there long enough to turn the program around, but I think he set things in motion.

looks like he has some pretty good things to say about App, starting at around 3:20.
He mentioned that his first game back in Boone in 30 years was the S. Alabama game in 2014. That would have been a rough one to take in after not seeing App play for that long. Overall, he suggests that we did things the right way (transition to FBS) and that he's never seen a team transition so smoothly.

Re: Looking at Texas State
He may have said some things that some of us took issue with years ago, but watching him speak about us it is clear to see that he is a proud alum and very impressed and proud of what we have accomplished. It's probably time to bury that hatchet and move on, this man clearly is a proud alum. This is probably the first game at the rock where both opposing coaches are App alum.

I've been wondering if there's ever been any college football game in which that was the case. Maybe some of the board historians can answer that one.t4pizza wrote: This is probably the first game at the rock where both opposing coaches are App alum.

Good post. Enjoyed Coach's talk. But, Coach said it was 2013 where So. Alabama came in to KBS & hammered us. But, it was Oct. 4, 2014. I remember their QB was huge & had a cannon for an arm.app97 wrote:He mentioned that his first game back in Boone in 30 years was the S. Alabama game in 2014. After hearing this, I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt. He was very complimentary of the App program & our move up to FBS.

It happened just this year alone when South Carolina and Georgia played. Both Muschamp and Smart graduated from UGA, they were even teammates for a year or so.

I meant a case where both coaches graduated from App specifically.t4pizza wrote:EastHallApp wrote:I've been wondering if there's ever been any college football game in which that was the case. I was going to ask if App had ever had a head football coach who was an alum other than Satterfield. I decided to look for myself and going back to the 60's, Carl Messere was an alum....so it might have happened before. I don't have time to dig into the opponents and not sure if there were others before him.

Re: Looking at Texas State
Thanks for remembering and for being considerate. Mack did change the culture and that changed our direction, back to a pre "he who shall not be named" trajectory.Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2016 7:38 amI think Mack Brown stopped the "he who shall not be named" skid and also hired Sparky Wood.
