From just a glance
From just a glance the topics on the board to a causal passerby would suggest that our program and team were and are on decline.
Topics like:
1. When in our offense going to play a full 60 minutes
2. The "fire" at Kidd Brewer Stadium
And so and so forth.
Am I being too harsh or is some of our "fans" not seeing what I see? I see a team that is 6-2, a top 10 defensive unit, #1 unit in interceptions, averaging over 300 yards rushing per game, and many other items.
I sit in Section 205 and I like to get into the game and sometimes I am maybe too loud, on the way out of the game Saturday night a fan asked me if I planned on moving to "better seats" next fall, I asked him what was he asking? He said in 12 years he had never heard someone so loud at the stadium. Well my response was him to him, " Yell louder". Saturday was the first time for a friend of mine to attend with me and he was wowed, by all of the spirit and pride for the program and the university. He is from Jonesboro, Arkansas and he said that ASU there is nothing at all compared to our game day. He got, why can't we?
I did not attend App, I am not an alumni, I just love this program, the coaching staff, the players, the athletic administration, the fans, the atmosphere, and the entire App spirit.
I am not sure why so many of us take to this board and complain!!!!!! We are 6-2 and the Legion of Boom is coming after you. Wake up Mountaineer Nation, we are a strong program.

Good post. Thanks for your support. My first reaction to your point is that I don't care what others think of our posts or names of threads on the MMB. So, yes, you are being too harsh.WVAppsfan wrote:From just a glance the topics on the board to a causal passerby would suggest that our program and team were and are on decline.

Keep on yelling, nothing wrong with that. If the folks around you don't like it, they can get earplugs. I am 100% certain you are not any louder than the canned music.
It's not all complaining though. I would describe it as being "real". Yes, App's D is top notch. But, our offense can sputter at times. Nothing wrong with pointing out stuff needing improvement.
And, I chuckled when I read the "fire" at KBS thread. I maintain that the secret to getting people to stay throughout a game is to have a good game, and to encourage fan interaction (could be yelling, could be something else). IMO, the canned music actually prohibits said fan interaction, which is exactly opposite of the intended effect. How often did you hear the "App - State" chant Saturday?
BTW, I think you meant the "Legion of Boone". Makes more sense.

Re: From just a glance
Thanks for your write up, and we Mountaineers will take anybody that wants to support us and cheer us on Alumni or not. I am an Alumni class of 95, and I have seen our Mountaineers go from small time to big time in 20 years. Bottom line, most of us are spoiled. We haven't had to go many years with losing seasons like some schools have, we've enjoyed the rise in our program from 3 time FCS national champions to competing with the big boys week in and week out and making bowl games, threatening to crack the top 25.
Believe it or not there was a time in the early 2000's when we had a couple bad seasons and many people wanted the legendary coach Moore to be fired? Thank God we did not and the rest is history. So yeah people don't realize what a great product we have because we haven't really tasted rock bottom. We have an incredible program and a wonderful game day experience. Heck even Alabama fans complain about things week in and week out even though they are ranked nationally #1. I know everyone has a right to express their feelings but look at other programs, (like Georgia Southern) who has historically experienced a lot of success but this year is having a down year. Their fans are ready to crucify their coach.
I love what we have and I am grateful for where we are at right now.

Also I think it speaks to exactly how good of a product we have out on the field...instead of us complaining about winning or turnovers, it's canned music, and students leaving the game at halftime...champagne problems in a beer league IMO but I'm glad we have a fanbase on here that is so passionate about our Mountaineers, constantly trying to improve our team and experience all around to attract more fans, players, and students.

8. Get one of those t-shirt cannon things and use it during time outs.
9. Mascot races during the 4th quarter. Those who leave early miss out.
10. Open the beer sales at the start of the 3rd quarter.
11. Give away stuff during the second half periodically by announcing seat numbers- must be present to win.
12. Just win baby. How many programs have a record as good as us over the last year and 3/4's?
7-11 are hokey things they do at our local hockey games. Number 12 should be enough to keep folks at games.

*see bolded above* ABSOLUTELY did not go down like this. Dude I have always yelled my *ss off on every defensive play. I told you I have never heard any one "quite like you" in 12 years of sitting in 205 but even then did it in a way that I hoped you would "get it". You did not say yell louder in response and as far as that goes not sure you even make noise on defense. Basically you spend the whole game making shouted comments through your toy megaphone during pauses in the action about Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Bobby Petrino, etc.
I for one also can't stand how our crowd has turned into a bunch of hand sitters and holding up 3 fingers on third down. Noise doesn't just happen folks, someone has to make it.

Re: From just a glance
Maybe beer sales would keep people past halftime. It may help curb binge drinking at tailgates as well and raise a little revenue.
There is a down side however, as people aren't always responsible inside and even more importantly outside of the stadium.

Re: From just a glance
I know you were just listing a few possible activities to increase fan interaction, and here are a few more:
1. Currently the Carolina Panthers flash graphics on the board to help engage fans on when to start chants -- They show: "KEEP" (with an arrow below it pointing to one side of the stadium), and then change to "POUNDING" (with the arrow pointing to other side of stadium). Then go back and forth several times. Something this simple would work great as:
<<<--- APP
STATE--->>>
<<<---APP
STATE--->>>
<<<---APP
STATE--->>>
2. Too late this season, but for the future we should look into adding a student leader to help get the students and crowd fired up. Since the cheerleaders for the most part stay in the same place, we could have this Crowd Leader moving around the stadium and student section to show short clips of fans during breaks in timeouts/other long breaks in the action. He could basically take the place of what Ken Peacock used to do, but throughout the whole game. (not to pile on, but this would help to eliminate additional piped in music)
3. I know we recognize different sports team throughout the game, but maybe we could recognize a Fraternity/Sorority/other large student groups at each game and highlight their contributions to the school and community. Not sure it would change much, but I could see some students sticking around longer if they knew their buddy was going to get recognized.
Also, I really like the idea of the 50/50 raffle. Sell tickets throughout the stadium through the end of the 3rd quarter and announce the winner during the 4th quarter. I have seen a games where the winner has taken home a ton of cash. Assuming 8,000 fans in attendance each bought one $5 ticket...that would be $20,000 to one lucky fan! While also raising some cash for the school (or local charity).

Re: From just a glance
It's a message board. People are bound to disagree. If we all agreed, posting on here would not be as enjoyable. I am with you on the thread about our team not playing a full 60 minutes. We are winning, and that's all that matters. However, I am on the fence about the "Fire at Kidd Brewer" thread. Should those complaining learn to accept the fact that people leave for various reasons? Yes, but I can't fault someone for wanting more from fans. That to me shows passion for App State.
