Yeesh. That's what the GoDaddy Bowl is now? GoDaddy was bottom-of-the-barrel enough, but that's just embarrassing.

Sidenote: both pick GaSo to go to the New Orleans Bowl.

we all must get used to this - we win 11 in a row we are still going to the Dollar General Bowl, if they pick us...

Sort of reinforces a thought I threw out a little while ago on another topic. Even though our overall record means a great deal to the team, school and fans in terms of bowl destination it apparently really doesn't. If we can knock off Miami and the next projection still has us in the same bowl that will truly suck.

yes but I posed the question about a week ago that, if in fact, the SB had a team go 11-1 and possibly ranked were there any "by-laws" which allowed the SB team to accept a bid to a bigger moneyed, more viable bowl game - The overwhelming responses said - NO, we are either in the NY6 or the Dollar General, R+L Carrier, etc. ---

It's possible a Sun Belt team could get the NY6 bid, but that's out of our control. Regardless of bowl, though, we could get a top 25 ranking, which would be a big deal and great accomplishment.

Do we have a large enough fan base willing to travel and fill our seat allotment for a NY6 bowl game? Peach Bowl in Atlanta, probably but Cotton Bowl, doubtful. I am not fed up with our current bowl tie-ins quite yet.

I get the frustration. It would be nice to have something available in between the NOLA Bowl and the NY6.

The Sun Belt can only do so much to improve its tie-ins - they can't force higher-tier bowls into contracts. What I'd like to see would be some structure that ensures the top teams are shown some preference in the selection process. Either a dedicated destination for the league champion, or allow the champion to select their bowl destination from among the league's primary tie-ins like CUSA does.

Remember when the calling card of the "1-A or bust" crowd was that the postseason doesn't mean anything, it was all about the regular season? They weren't wrong on that front. We will be looking at one of the 3-4 same bowl games every year no matter what we do. This is no surprise to anyone.

It would be great if the bowls were more in line with rank. If we go, say 11-1 with a quality U win we would be close to if not top 25 ranked. We might not get the NY6 but if the bowls went by ranking we would garner a more appealing destination. I realize there's no way that's happening. The entire tie-in thing is completely bogus.

Well, keep in mind, three years ago the Sun Belt only had two bowl tie-ins. Now it has five. So these things aren't totally static over time. If the league can start having teams that are more successful outside the conference, with 10-11 wins and top 25 consideration the norm for the league champion, then I think we'll start seeing better bowl tie-ins over time. (Or, more likely, the good teams will move on to other leagues, but that's a separate discussion.)

I believe we all know these bowls will stick with - for example - #5 ACC vs. #6 SEC or #7 Big 10 vs. #7 Big 12 ---

When should we know where and who we are playing?

In many cases, sure. But I count a half-dozen bowls this year whose primary tie-ins are P5 vs. G5:

- Military Bowl (ACC vs. AAC)
- St. Petersburg Bowl (ACC vs. AAC)
- Armed Forces Bowl (Big 12 vs. AAC/Navy)
- Heart of Dallas (Big Ten vs. CUSA)
- Las Vegas (Pac-12 vs. Mountain West)
- Birmingham (SEC vs. AAC)

Beyond P5s, the Sun Belt could get some better G5 tie-ins. We've talked on this board about the need to add some structure to the Sun Belt's bowl selection process, to ensure there's some sort of reward for the league's better teams. Perhaps a tie-in matching the SBC champion vs. the champion of the MAC or CUSA. Or a game against one of the better teams from the AAC or Mountain West.

I mean, if people are expecting someone from the Sun Belt to draw a 10-2 P5 team without making the NY6, then yeah, they're going to be disappointed. But I do think there's still room for improvement.

Ummm...we've only been to ONE bowl game and everyone's losing their mind that we may go back a second time.

Let's wait until we've been twice to the same one before we get tired of it?

That battle is over, but keep carrying the banner.

Were you one of those telling telling App fans we couldn't get an ACC team to play in Boone during those debates. If not, sorry I'm mistaken, but if so be prepared to see that claim of same four bowls be inaccurate as well. The bowl tie-ins will change over within five years as well so don't get too down.

I look forward to any of the bowl games, and I'd have to say the regular season schedule in 2016 was better than any I can remember.

Reminder to everyone, we're in three year of the FBS transition and it's gone "fairly well".

I'll gladly go to Montgomery year after year if it means we get to play teams like Miami at home. Nobody was mad that the Championship games were in Chatty every year.
