The graph at the end is one of your better efforts. Well done.

Ha ha, great write up, I love the graph at the end. Why on earth do these sports writers continue to throw out ridiculous locations like Las Vegas and St Petersburg if its not a possibility, all be it remote, for us? You make a lot of great points, do you think the potential ripple that Navy or WMU could cause will not effect us at all?

I think it will have some impact, but not as much as some are predicting. The logic is sound on how it could "paralyze" the selection process, but ultimately the really high bowls will know who they want and the lower bowls have to go ahead and decide so marketing efforts and reservations/Plans can be made. Bowls will take ticket sales over the possibility of a little bit better of a team if it is truely about money. The army navy game is on the 10th, anyone waiting till that is over is allowing only 6-7 days before the actual bowl game. No way, select by the 4th for most.

What is the controversy about Navy and WMU?

If South Alabama and ULL win, App could be passed over for the Sun Belt bowls. At that point, ull is likely to New Orleans, Troy to Mobile and Idaho to Arizona. Arkansas State and South Alabama could end up in Montgomery and Orlando respectively, thus the chance another bowl with an opening will be the spot for Appalachian.

If Washington were to make the playoff, they would leave two spots open that Pac12 teams usually fill. That is where the Vegas talk comes from, even though it's ridiculous. St Pete comes from the AAC being one short. The truth is this year is incredibly unpredictable to where many teams will be placed.

Like T-Dog mentioned App never pre-sold tickets for Arizona for a reason. We have also dodged in a sense Mobile due to the difficulty in date of game.

They are considering swapping mascots and a lot of the bowl execs wouldn't want to select them in the beginning of such a long and difficult transition. So, if they get left out that leaves two spots open for 5-7 teams.

How does the team look health wise? Do we expect to be at full strength for the bowl game?

You shouldn't toy with NewApp's emotions that way. You know that he has a soft spot for mascots.

Don't quit your day job. You have no future in comedy writing.

Did you even read his article? USA has "provisional" status and WON'T get selected until ALL bowl slots are filled Thus, they will NOT get selected before App, because they CAN'T be.

Actually, South Al can be selected in a Sun Belt bowl even if 6 Sun Belt teams qualify. Bowl placement is a negotiation with many factors including input from the bowls and respective conferences. Each conference wants its teams in the best matchups possible. It’s why knowledgeable pundits like Jerry Palm are projecting us in an outside bowl (Las Vegas, in his case). We had provisional teams last year who received favorable bowl placements. I’m not saying we will end up in another bowl, but it is possible if 6 Sun Belt teams qualify.

With all the "ins and outs" aside, for some reason, App - Temple sounds like a good match to me. If there was a way for this match up to happen there would be APPsolutely no complaints from me. Nevertheless, regardless of what we think, in a few more days we'll know for sure. In the mean time, Merry Christmas!

HI MTN Jax,

Sounds like I am having a better day than you are sir. I actually did read the article. They can be selected over us. If 6 teams are eligible it becomes a crap shoot as to where we go. This has happened several years in the past with other leagues. So hope your day gets better.

i'm actually having a great day. i'm on vacation and i'm watching Tiger Woods play like prime-era Tiger again.

It has just been my understanding that USA, because of their waiver for a 2nd FCS win to count and their provisional status, would be treated like 5-7 teams eligible for a bowl. meaning, all bowl slots will need to be filled before they can be selected for what bowl openings are available.
