Congrats to Elliot...so now there are 3 former App players that are head coaches in the Sun Belt, right? Elliot (Ga State), Withers (Tx State) and Satterfield.

Best of luck to Shawn but until somebody can drum up fans to attend games, it will be a dead end job. Tough to get players to come play in front of 1000 people each week.

Re: Shawn Elliot new Ga State Head Coach
Just ask our men's basketball team. Although 1000 is a generous number for men's bball. The one thing he's got going for him is the fact the school is in Atlanta. Not a bad gig for his first head coaching gig. Doubt he is looking to make it a super long term. All he needs to do is win games to have a chance at something better.Goapps15 wrote:Best of luck to Shawn but until somebody can drum up fans to attend games, it will be a dead end job. Re: Shawn Elliot new Ga State Head Coach
Elliott will certainly bring a lot of energy to the job. He knows the Atlanta high schools as he recruited them for USC and with their own new stadium to play in rather than the Dome, maybe they can turn attendance around a little bit with a few wins. I wish him luck unless they are playing the Apps. And as Ericsaid stated, their running game will certainly improve.

Elliot will be good. They'll probably score a TD on us now.

GaState isn't too excited about the hire. They had a Fire Elliott thread started on the 247 site before the official announcement happened. Most of it was tongue in cheek, but it had it's underlying meaning.

Re: Shawn Elliot new Ga State Head Coach
Congrats to Coach Elliott. I think he will be a very good coach, but I'm afraid he is looking at a tough gig. GSU is now re-building on both sides of the ball. I think his energy will help get more out of the talent already on the roster though, and he is an excellent recruiter.
On another note....is it just me or is that an incredibly lackluster headline for a coaching announcement? "Georgia State AGREES TO HIRE...." What the heck? Were they forced to hire him against their will? Really low energy presentation of this hire if you ask me. He deserves better!

Cobb did a lot of good things while at App, but no one ever accused him of being high energy.

Sure many will disagree but i think GaSt has the potential to be a sleeping giant, at least in terms of G5 schools. If Shawn can recruit I think GaSt will start causing problems in the SBC sooner than later.

Re: Shawn Elliot new Ga State Head Coach
Not sure I see the appeal of GSU by all the people going there. Guess they have money and the new stadium. But nothing about the school so far screams football school. At least I can pull for him when they play GS.

Re: Shawn Elliot new Ga State Head Coach
I'm stating the obvious but he will also need to put together a strong, cohesive staff. I think he has been in the right places in his football and learned from some Hall of Famers and that this will be helpful to him in this new position. I wish him the best, except once a year.

Some are speculating he may go after several app coaches. It will be interesting to see who is on his staff

Surprised he took this job.....just surprised. Must not like what is going on in Columbia.
