Happy Thoughts About the Camellia Bowl!
With the loss to Tennessee, this was the best possible outcome for us. Orlando? New Orleans? Our time will come there, and those of you upset about not being there this year, sure as hell better be there when we do get to those bowls.
No excuses of "well I can't make it, my 2nd girlfriend from High School's Uncle from her mom's 2nd marriage has a daughter who is having a wedding shower that day". You'll get what you want soon enough.
Until then, the city of Montgomery WANTS us there. We are and will be the ONLY act in town. They roll out the red carpet for us. There are no other events to follow (unlike NO and ORL who have other bowls following that they're actually looking forward to), and the stadium will be packed and oozing ATMOSPHERE. You won't get that in a generic 65-75k bland and cavernous stadium/dome 3/4 empty and depressing, playing against a 6-6 or 5-7 also-ran. Cure Bowl isn't even on TV. You think the folks in Orlando GAF about that game?
Toledo is a fantastic football matchup!
The Camellia Bowl is new to this, and so are we. We are building brands together here.
Also--and this is key here--ESPN WANTS us in that game (that's why we're there again). We perform well for them, always have. ESPN likes us. The stadium looks good, full and LOUD when we are there, and it comes across that way on TV. They, and their advertisers, like that.
Be thankful we are where we are. It's the best scenario we could have. I had my ticket order in knowing full well I won't/can't be going. Embrace it, enjoy it. There are plenty of us who can't go, and couldn't last year either. I'm envious of you.
PACK THE STADIUM! BE LOUD! GO APPS!
P.S. I've amended an old saying of mine: One of these days, one of us will win in Pasadena. I plan on being there when it happens.

Re: Happy Thoughts About the Camellia Bowl!
Great post. I am happy to be returning to a bowl game and the Camellia is fine with me. The Camellia Bowl is a big thing to Montgomery instead of just another event in NO or Orlando. I suspect both Montgomery and the Camellia remembers App Nation from last year, is prepared and excited.
Toledo is a good football team, somewhat like Troy but much better (we lost that game remember?). We will likely be the underdog. The media loves the match up. It will be interesting to see the viewing numbers versus other, more "prestigious" bowls/locations.
I am packed, ready and resting my voice.

Actually the first two predictors are calling us as a 6 pt. favorite because of our defense. More reason to go!!!

At 1st, I was 1 of the App fans disappointed we weren't going to orlando. But like the OP said, there'll be a time for that and I really love our match up. Had a blast in Montgomery last year and excited to be heading back again this year. Got tickets, got a hotel room, now just waiting for December 17th to get here.

As mentioned by many already; although Orlando is a more fun location than Montgomery, the TV spot for the Camellia Bowl is WAY better than the Cure Bowl...not even close. I wasn't able to be there last year because of family obligations but I've heard nothing but good things about Montgomery and I suspect, after their experiencing a large enthusiastic Mountaineer crowd last year, that it'll be even better this year.

You're dead-on abut ESPN. They know App-Toledo will be an outstanding match-up.bigapp wrote:With the loss to Tennessee, this was the best possible outcome for us. Orlando? New Orleans? Re: Happy Thoughts About the Camellia Bowl!
I just hope our guys don't get overconfident and cocky going into this game as a gimmee just because we were there last year. I'm partially referring to the Miami game...I feel like we hyped ourselves up way too much and we showed up thinking we had that game in the bag and we got our asses kicked...at home...on the mothership

I would hope the memories of the Miami game help prevent another like it.appaneer1984 wrote:I just hope our guys don't get overconfident and cocky going into this game as a gimmee just because we were there last year. Re: Happy Thoughts About the Camellia Bowl!
Yeah, Toledo isn't MUCH better than Troy. Without a head to head match-up between them it is a farce to suggest that is the case with any level of certainty. Toledo is a solid team but App is rolling out these new offensive looks that should give an advantage to App.App74 wrote:Great post. Re: Happy Thoughts About the Camellia Bowl!
Just speaking general BS here: Since Toledo defeated Arky State 35-10 this season, if we defeat them, could this be the "tie-breaker" for determining the true conference champ?

I'm fine with splitting the title, finishing more than a game over .500 and not taking a collar in OOC games.WataugaMan wrote:Just speaking general BS here: Since Toledo defeated Arky State 35-10 this season, if we defeat them, could this be the "tie-breaker" for determining the true conference champ?

I wonder how we are doing with our bowl ticket sales this year? Wasn't it last year that we sold out of our initial allotment after a week?

Re: Happy Thoughts About the Camellia Bowl!
It won't give us anything official (of course) but it sure will give us something to throw back at the Arkansas State fans who keep dwelling on their 2015 win over App. They want to dismiss the loss to ULL as a "rivalry" thing, although I call BS on that. Toledo has OWNED Arkansas State in recent years so a W for App would be huge!CVAPP wrote:Works for meWataugaMan wrote:Just speaking general BS here: Since Toledo defeated Arky State 35-10 this season, if we defeat them, could this be the "tie-breaker" for determining the true conference champ?

Re: Happy Thoughts About the Camellia Bowl!
I don't really care what their fans say. If they want to thump their chests about going 1-1 against us in our first two years out of FCS, then I say have at it. We have bigger fish to fry.Yosef84 wrote:It won't give us anything official (of course) but it sure will give us something to throw back at the Arkansas State fans who keep dwelling on their 2015 win over App. They want to dismiss the loss to ULL as a "rivalry" thing, although I call BS on that.
