Good article, but seems more like a blanket to cover up smoke IMO. He never actually addresses Cincinnati. I get the feeling he will bolt for the first good opportunity and I don't blame him, just saying the article is a bit of fluff.

The fact that this came out after the Cincinnati job was filled is probably the telling point. Like a more low-key version of Anderson's "You're stuck with me!" tweet after his Baylor negotiations fell through.

It's amazing how relative money becomes for people. A half mil salary living in Boone ain't too shabby I would think. Guys talk about a Satt jumping on an eventual opportunity that would quadruple his salary. What is the guy supposed to say that won't draw skepticism?

I thought a lot about this when I saw his name associated with the Cincinnati job. $500k puts him in the the 1% in NC for sure. What do you need that $500k can't get you? Unless you are buying houses and multiple cars it's hard to spend that kind of money. Now, depending on lifestyle and how you manage your money $500k for 5 yrs would net a good nest egg but maybe not retirement in Hilton Head. That's where you can see someone say okay $2M, 5 years and then I don't have to worry, in fact my kids don't either. So yea I think he will leave and it will be about the money when it happens. Most of us would do the same.

I trust Satts stated motive. He has never struck me as someone who is after a buck as much as he is a teacher and builder of men as his mentor Coach Moore is and was.

I'd rather get half a mil and live in Boone deep in the mountains than get $2 mil and having to live in Cincinnati. Nice place, good chili, but tranquility is not something you associate with Cincy.

I like others on here will not fault Satt when he leaves. I'll mourn if we start losing, but he's earned the right to take his shot somewhere.

This is the thing that no one is discussing: He can also leave for reasons not about the money. As an aside, I disagree with a previous poster. There is a big difference between 500K and 2.5 mil, especially when you have kids and a wife you are trying to reward for sticking by you, sleeping in motels and couch surfing with you, when you started as an assistant in Boone because you didn't get paid anything. Anyway I digress.

Scott is a competitor and we know that. He wants to win and be challenged. As much as I love the Neers and the Sunbelt rivals we are creating, winners want to take their shot at the best competition. Winners want to see if they can make their mark on CFB history. It is harder to beat USF, Houston, Memphis, Temple, ECU, and Navy weekend, week out than it is our current slate. If he leaves to test his sand against that kind of competition you can't blame him or his desire to reach the pinnacle of his profession. Most of us probably have the same desires in our own careers.

I can think of no bigger challenge in college football than taking an FCS program into the FBS and creating a top flight G5 program. Going to a P5 school with a budget 10x ours is a challenge to raise that program up to the level of the top 10-15 programs, but not really as difficult as the current challenge that faces us.

Now you can argue he may want to coach against the best week in and week out, that would be more challenging than coaching against the SBC.

Bottom line it looks like we get to enjoy him for at least one more season and I'll going to enjoy it. I'll be at as many home games as my family calendar allows and certainly support whatever bowl game we go to. Apathy hasn't crept into my willingness to support this team. It's a marathon not a sprint.

And I think that he's done that. Sure there are goals left: being ranked, beating a P5 etc. But I think every coach with drive wants to see if they can be the next Meyer, Saban. If building a great G5 program was the end all be all Saban would have stayed at Toledo, Meyer would have stayed at BG or Utah. Its just not the same and you know that.

Ohio was not always kind to the Satterfields.

I think he'll leave for the RIGHT opportunity. I don't think he's interested in job hopping, unlike certain former basketball coaches who talked about how "happy they are" to be in Boone.

Cincy has a pretty good track record in getting coaches to a big job...Jones to Tennessee, Dantonio to Michigan State, and Kelly to ND. That said - those guys had recruiting and coaching ties in the area due to their previous jobs. While there might have been passing interest by Satt, I think he knew it wasn't a good fit.

I was more worried about USF, as we do recruit that area pretty heavily, with several guys from Florida on staff, and Scott having a few years at FIU..but they were clearly interested in "bigger" names.

At the end of the day - one of the intangible benefits we have with Satt is that he clearly loves Boone...or he wouldn't have spent 20+ years of his life there...so it would likely take a P5 job to pry him loose...and likely only one that is in a Southern P5. Those don't come open very often...and they aren't always looking at Sun Belt schools.

That's all to say, I think we'll hold onto him longer than your average SBC school would hold onto a guy of his caliber. We are very fortunate, in so many ways, to have him...

If you want to keep a coach like Satt who has an attitude like this then wrap him up with a 10 year deal. This goes both ways. The only fear of a coach is getting fired and having an unsure/insecure future. Of course would we tie ourselves into a deal where we would be stuck with a coach who might lose? For me I'd give Satt and his family some long term guarantees. Ms. Satt likes being "home" so let's make sure they can stay here.

I don't believe he has, I'm speaking to Boise St. or similar type status. "End all be all" isn't this same discussion as which is a bigger challenge.

Look how much quicker Peterson took Washington to the playoffs versus the time it took to build a program like Boise.
