Toledo Board
If this is redundant I apologize I didn't see another thread. I ventured over to their board, their reaction to this game is mindboggling. Calling for Candle's resignation and proclaiming it the worst loss in program history. How can losing a game Vegas had lined out as a pick 'em be that bad even if you weren't being hyperbolic in your mourning.
Their overall unwillingness to give App any credit was also baffling. Basically they lost because (1) the refs didn't call a "hold" on Evans' kick return and (2) because they kicked instead of going for it on 4 and 1 at the end. Nothing in between. I know we act delusional on here from time to time (see e.g. run up to the Miami game) but this is next level stuff.
Proud of Gonzo for giving them a quick driveby to try and bring some rational thought to the platform.

So this must be what Boise State felt like once they starting being successful and continually being shunned by "big boys"

We didn't beat them by more because we only ran Lamb 9 times for an average of 14 yards per carry.

Re: Toledo Board
I didn't see them complaint about holds on the kick return. I did see them complain about Gossetts alledged hold on the run that Cox broke outside. I may be a homer but it didn't look like a hold to me. Sure he had the guys jersey, but he kept his arms inside and didn't extend. It is my understanding that is acceptable.MtnMan09 wrote:If this is redundant I apologize I didn't see another thread. I ventured over to their board, their reaction to this game is mindboggling. Re: Toledo Board
I know the block to which you refer. No hold there. It was a great block that sprang Cox to the outside around the left. THAT's why we have such good running backs ... great blocks.AppSt94 wrote:I didn't see them complaint about holds on the kick return. Re: Toledo Board
Oh, yeah, the Toledo Board is full of negative Nellie's. I commented on their negativity BEFORE the game over in their world. After the game, those negative Nellies came out of the woodwork to complain & whine.
I think they need 1) more fans & 2) more sunshine.
What I saw in Montgomery was a darn good football team (the Rockets) that ran into something they had not yet experienced ... App's D. They had their chance & we won. This time. I think we could play them 10 times & we'd be lucky to win 6.

Re: Toledo Board
I have to agree with some of their fans about the coaching. Trying to audible when we were missing a DE and only had 10 players on the field. Not going for it on 4th and 2, especially with the success Hunt had on the last drive. Why was he not in the game??? If he was tired, call that last TO. And where was their (TE) Andre the Giant, I mean Michael Roberts, once they got inside the 10. That dude is a monster! He brushed off Mondo and Howard like they were toddlers on his lone TD catch. I think our fan base would be just as disgruntled if the tables were turned.
With that said, they aren't really giving App any credit, especially to App's D who held their team under 30 for the 2nd time all season and a season low in yards. The Rockets' D had no answer for the App run game and if the WR's could catch I don't believe this game is as close as the final score. Bottom line, App made enough plays to win between 2 evenly matched teams!

Re: Toledo Board
I was talking the game over with some friends beforehand and said I thought their offense would be better than most we'd faced, but our D would also be better than most (if not all) they'd faced. So I figured they'd win a few rounds, we'd win a few rounds, and it would ultimately be decided in the final minutes.AppAlum1 wrote:Oh, yeah, the Toledo Board is full of negative Nellie's. I'm not always right, but this one played out about like I expected.

Re: Toledo Board
No one else seems to have noticed, but I think Hunt had his bell rung on the play before he went out down on about the 8 at the end of the game. I think Gilchrist tackled him hard & he spun around and the back of his head hit the ground & bounced. He came out of the game on his own & looked woozy going off the field. I don't think he came back in. It was hard to tell when I re-watched the game last night. And, the announcers missed it entirely, as it appears did most everyone else. But, I saw his head slap the ground and bounce.moonshine wrote:I have to agree with some of their fans about the coaching. They cannot blame that on their coach. Although, many on their message board tried.
And, I agree about their big TE. I thought we would see ALOT more of him.

Re: Toledo Board
We ran into a large group of Toledo fans at Railyard Friday night. Chatted a bit with an older gentleman who said they'd just arrived in town and it was 0 degrees wind chill in Toledo. So at least they got to enjoy the weather for a couple days, I guess.

You nailed it and Gilchrist nailed him. After Gilchrist took Hunt to the ground after the 2nd down play, he was hurt and he asked to come out. The Toledo people seem kind of crazy on their comments. I agree we got away with some holds, but so did they. On Hunt's 1st TD run, if #4 doesn't grab and turn Boggs, Boggs makes the tackle and no TD. The refs seemed to swallow their whistles for most of the night.

Some are giving credit, some aren't. Some want their coach fired, some don't Typical response from a fan base. Remember the fire Satterfield group?MtnMan09 wrote:If this is redundant I apologize I didn't see another thread. I ventured over to their board, their reaction to this game is mindboggling. Re: Toledo Board
None of those excuses mentions how they gave up 300 yards rushing. I don't care who you are, how many points you average, how big your TE is or if you crap gold coins...you're going to struggle to win with yards on the ground like that.

However, if App had a TE like Roberts, I'd be pretty upset if he didn't receive at least one target from inside the 10 especially considering he had 15 TD's coming into the game.
