Red-Zone play calling

Thought this could have been the difference in the game. Our play-calling here leaves alot to be desired. Using our smallest back in runs up the gut and losing yards. Can't punch it in from the 1. Ever heard of a fade pattern to a 6'5 WR? We are not a power running team, why do we continue this pattern?

Should have been under center.
If JJ can't run the ball this team willhave a very short run in the playoffs.
He could not scramble at all. If the pocket collapsed he got sacked.
Post game radio even mentioned that we are very limited with our offense if jj didn't run. Even mentioned us using our other qb.

Steven Miller may not look the part, but he is every bit the power back that can get the tough yards. Just because he is quick and fast doesn't mean he can't truck you. For the record, on the goal line play in question, I thought he was in on his initial run. The offense put up 33 points and while I agree they should have had more, it was nowhere near the difference in the game. That came down to turnovers and special teams which made the game much, much closer than it really was.

No, Price didn't get many catches downfield. However, it appeared that Furman's defensive scheme was comparable to the one that one team played against Davidson when they had Steph Curry, where they had a double team shadow Curry literally everywhere on the court. He didn't get any points, but Davidson won basically playing 4-on-3. My guess is Furman's defensive gameplan (which, by the way, was fantastic) was to shadow Price all game long and limit his big play ability and the general big play ability of this offense. That worked well, however...

Andrew Peacock had himself a day, as well as Tony Washington because Furman basically gave up everything short inside of 5 yards, and our slot receivers are talented enough to make defenders miss in the open field. The beauty of this offense is that once you take away one way of attack, it opens the door for another. That's something we haven't seen from an ASU offense in quite some time, and boy, is it refreshing.

The entire game Furman kept a safety over the top on Price's side - even when we had 3 WRs to the opposite side they still double teamed him - as Steve Brown said, they played a bend don't break defense to keep everything in front of them and wouldn't allow him to get deep ---

I noticed that, too, early on especially in situations where it appeared JJ could go to him But JJ progressed nicely, thusly not forcing the issue. His being knicked up made him have more pocket presence.
Even in some 3rd and short distance to go plays, FU still played Price over the top instead of creeping that safety near the LOS to help with run support. Their defense played with discipline, in my opinion.

I'd love to see us go under center and line up Fraiser at FB and Chisolm at TB. Miller is outstanding, but he just doesn't weigh enough to punch it in on the goal line. Hopefully we can come up with something over the next few weeks.

At some point a healthy Hallock or Peacok or the MMB are better than a less that 100% JJ. Hopefully 2 weeks JJ can get healed. Our style of offense is really limited when our QB is a statue.

I'd like to see us do this at random times in all areas of the field. If nothing else, it should keep the D a little more honest...especially if we passed out of this formation.

Peacock did run one in out of the Wildcat in the 4th Q for a TD - really nice and tough run - was called back for holding ---
