You can have passion and drive, but still be smart about it. Having a reputation as someone that gets a personal foul a game isn't a positive for him. As a fringe NFLer he must learn to control himself. He isn't going to be good enough to get away with that crap at the next level.
I may be in the minority here, but that drove me crazy the last two years.

I agree with you Saint, but I assume it did as much or more good than harm. Measuring the yards it cost us was simple the part. We don't know the impact it had on opponents' or his own teammates' psyches.

I'm pretty sure that Parker Collins only got one personal foul flag last year. If you take away the very first drive of the season, he went 13 games without one. Maybe he has that reputation because people keep saying things like that without actually considering the facts.

You must have blocked out the one from the Troy game. Understandable coping mechanism. But yes, the reputation gets exaggerated a bit sometimes.
I'm in the camp of being willing to live with the occasional 15-yarder as the price of aggressiveness (e.g., the one at UT). The one against Troy was just dumb. And yes, it's a fine line.

You would be wrong.
He had one in a four point loss to Troy. He had a personal foul, which was a cheap shot after the whistle that pushed us back from their 39 to our 46 late in the game. The definition of undisciplined play in a critical point of a game.
Be nasty in between the whistles, be smart once it blows.
Didn't mean to pile on, EHA beat me to it.

If he is playing hard, as he often is, he likely has his sights set on a goal before the play ends. When the whistle blows it's hard to pull up 300 lbs, and now knowing he runs close to a sub 5 second 40, makes it even more understandable.
It takes that kind of attitude when you began your career on a team that would've been considered the underdog more often than not.

BS. Go back and watch that Troy play and then try and post that with a straight face.

Why do we care now? I dare say his nasty attitude gave us some great plays and rubbed off on his teammates. Look at the number of blocks resulting in great plays. I can forgive 3 or 4 mental mistakes.

You guys kill me. Parker was one of my favorite players during his career. A tough kid with a chip on his shoulder that is driven to win= A poster child for App State football. If I am an NFL scout, I would rather have a player that you need to "tone down" a bit over a player with less motor any day. A few of questionable plays don't offset the amount of rushing yards directly attributable to his blocking during his career. Good luck on achieving your dream, young man!

See "JGthatsme" response as rebuttal with explanation.

Yes exactly and I want a guy like this on my team and I think the coaches did too!

I guess those Elon players that played well after the whistle during the AE years were ok too, can't have it both ways.

there is a difference in someone trying to deliberately cheap shot hurt someone and someone who is looking you in the face and knocking your block off.

Again, how many penalties did he actually get? Most of us would probably agree the play at Troy was dumb and a big mistake, but it was one play. The one at UT was borderline, and borne out of aggressiveness, not lack of discipline.
Is that it? Are we going to brand this guy a problem child because of 1-2 plays all year?
If you tell me we can get an OL who will take two 15-yarders a year in exchange for 13 games of nastiness at the LOS as well as downfield, I'll take that guy 10 times out of 10.

Just as a little heads up for the future. I would not be surprised to see a few more possible PF's from the OL. SC likes "Nasty, aggressive" linemen and that's one of the things he looks for the most when going after guys. Doesn't mean dirty but like Rek said, more in your face. But if we get a ref crew in a bad mood we might have a few PF's called. Just a public service announcement.

I'm obviously in the minority on this subject, but this looks like rationalization to me because he's our guy. He wasn't always looking them in the face. You can be "nasty" but smart when the whistle blows.
Imagine if App were to be in an access bowl position and an ill-timed PF were called in a game similar to Troy. Would it still be worth it.
I love lineman that are "nasty" during the play, but I'm not going to throw stones when others teams/players do something and then turn around and lower the expectations of our players.
Good luck to Collins where ever life takes him next.

Well ....I will just finish with this...It aint touch football. Do you remember the downfield pancake block he made in the Bowl game?
Might have won us the game. How many holding or offsides calls? To me it's like expecting our QB to be interception free.

The difference is I can give a player credit for great plays in between the whistles and not rationalize his play after it.
He is a heck of a player and that's why he has a shot as an UDFA this summer.
