This only makes our opponents prepare harder and put an x over the date we play them making trap games more of a potential. We will no longer be a surprise if we upset some ranked teams. I am still surprised we are in this kind of coverage still this early in FBS. Let's hope the trend continues and we can be in these conversations every year. It is great to be a Mountaineer. Also I have season tickets for first time ever after just moving back to the Great State of North Carolina.

I think Lamb will surprise people with his down field throws this year. I would not expect an Aaron Rodgers type arm to get the ball deep, but I think Satt opens the playbook a little more this year.

Even if the arm strength does improve, we likely will not know until the second week due to UGA's likely press coverage and time our line will be able to give him in week one./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:I think Lamb will surprise people with his down field throws this year. We may not be throwing 40 yard bombs against them (though a couple attempts would be nice), but IMO we at least need to get an intermediate passing game going to have a plausible shot to win that one. Seemed like we rarely even threw it 10 yards downfield against UT, outside of the wheel route TD to Cox.Saint3333 wrote:Even if the arm strength does improve, we likely will not know until the second week due to UGA's likely press coverage and time our line will be able to give him in week one./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:I think Lamb will surprise people with his down field throws this year. Oh I agree. I think that falls more on the WRs than OL/QB. P5 teams know the playbook is to jam our WRs and stack the box. Which is why I was so impressed with our ability to run fairly well on UTk.

I agree. Like EastHall said though I hope we at least try against UGA. Damn I miss football.Saint3333 wrote:Even if the arm strength does improve, we likely will not know until the second week due to UGA's likely press coverage and time our line will be able to give him in week one./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:I think Lamb will surprise people with his down field throws this year. The status quo has changed so much in the last three years that we will be expected to compete versus UGA and anything less would be a disappointment to all, instead of just an "aw darn it."

I like the bar of expectation being raised. That is the only way we get better.

If we don't get off press coverage and don't open the play book for Ga., I will keep my expectations as low as they belong....truth
We can't play vinella offense because that's what we been given, and expect to beat a REAL SEC team..... just being real

I expect to do what we do. Zone read and play action pass. Maybe a few extra wrinkles sprinkled in.
Will it be good enough to hang with UGA? I'm not going to be unrealistic. This will be a very tough game to win.

I'm gonna be honest - I'll be surprised if we hang with them. Though my predictions aren't great in these situations - I was surprised when we hung with UT and when we didn't against Miami.T-Dog wrote:The status quo has changed so much in the last three years that we will be expected to compete versus UGA and anything less would be a disappointment to all, instead of just an "aw darn it."

It's odd how much power fans have over outcomes of future games. *walks in 3 circles, sits down twice, and says a prayer*

Every 10 years we remind teams not to take us lightly. It's the in between years that are not so much fun. Maybe that will change?

Why should we open up the play book first game? No fan should expect a team to have everything down pat with some new personnel in key spots. This an SEC team, not Savannah State. We'll be up against superior speed overall, size, and 4 star talent across the board.
