We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable giving that title to a team that lost to WCU.

I'm not enough of a historian to really give an informed answer, but '09 was pretty dang good.

If '09 was the season when Brian Quick dropped the ball at the goal line against Montana, I agree.EastHallApp wrote:I'm not enough of a historian to really give an informed answer, but '09 was pretty dang good.

I agree also; the loss to UCLA notwithstanding. To beat ECU, and ACC team and a former ACC team is quite credible.JTApps1 wrote:The 1975 team that beat SC, Wake, and ECU.
Lost in this discussion is the team that none of us ever saw play and that was 1968. Finished 8-2 in the old NAIA Carolinas Conference. Yes, I know....NAIA but still a great team. Ron Kanoy (former AT who's seen App football since 1965) told me it was probably the only team he'd ever seen that could score with one play from any spot on the field. Of course the teams with Armanti might argue that point today.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

II was there and you are correct, that team could score from any point with one play - run or pass.scatman77 wrote:I agree also; the loss to UCLA notwithstanding. To beat ECU, and ACC team and a former ACC team is quite credible.JTApps1 wrote:The 1975 team that beat SC, Wake, and ECU.

Going to agree that 2009 is the best bet here, purely because of #14.

That was my first as a student. I didn't want to watch the highlights from that game until the following season.MDaniels84 wrote:If '09 was the season when Brian Quick dropped the ball at the goal line against Montana, I agree.EastHallApp wrote:I'm not enough of a historian to really give an informed answer, but '09 was pretty dang good.

The 1937 team has to be mentioned since they were undefeated and unscored upon

Re: Best App team w/o Satt
Who did 1968 team lose to? Could they beat 1975 team? Could 1975 team beat 1989 team?
That is how I would compare them.

Re: Best App team w/o Satt
To be fair, WCU was actually a solid program back in those days plus we were just a few years removed from NAIA at that point. The 09 was VERY good, but all things considered the accomplishments of 1975 were better to me.Saint3333 wrote:I'm not sure I'm comfortable giving that title to a team that lost to WCU.
The 09 team only beat a 2 win WCU squad by 5 BTW...

Re: Best App team w/o Satt
I tend to think of '09 as better than '08, but when I look back at their results, I guess that's because '09 was better in the playoffs. '08 was probably a little more dominant in the regular season, but didn't play their best at all in the playoffs.JTApps1 wrote:To be fair, WCU was actually a solid program back in those days plus we were just a few years removed from NAIA at that point. I agree with Scatman and a few others of that vintage. The 1975 team was special and I was fortunate enough to be at the USC, Wake and ECU victories (as was Scatman). In Columbia we played "Carolina In The Pines" a hundred times in a row at a local watering hole jukebox singing at the top of our lungs until management had enough and kicked us out. One of the highlights of my App years.

Re: Best App team w/o Satt
Look up running backs Kevin Long and Clarence Williams, QB Jeff Grantz, LB Steve Prezioso. You'll see that they had a very solid team.AtlAppMan wrote:How good was USC in '75?

With Armanti dressed but not playing and our running back, Travaris Cadet starting the game at QB.JTApps1 wrote:To be fair, WCU was actually a solid program back in those days plus we were just a few years removed from NAIA at that point.
