If this is indeed true, looks like they may have to engineer bracing simular to current board. Maybe use old board footings / pilings to assist. At a height you wouldn't wack your head. Reading that again ....8 feet wide 35 deep?? That is a HUGE hole!

While looking at the crane parked at the existing score board in the photo by bigCasu, it would make sense to me to disassemble the score board before the start of erecting new score board. but with the problems that have come up with the footings maybe they delay the disassembly of existing board until the footings situation is solved. And no I did not stay at the Holiday Inn Express last night.

Here's today's update:

They were drilling down when I was there to take these pictures. These were taken around 6:15 this evening.
Image

You can get a better idea of the sheer size of the columns in this picture. These things are easily five feet in diameter.
Image

They've started to wire up the electrical stuff needed for the ribbon boards on the East Side stands.
Image

They have also installed new security cameras throughout KBS.
Image

The pieces of the video board are actually sitting out now. I'd guess there to be 25 to 30 pieces sitting out underneath the East Side.
Image

They have removed the old smaller ribbon boards on both sides of the stadium. I wonder what those will be used for now?
Image

Here's the West Side without any ribbon boards.
Image

You can see the sheer size of the crane and the columns in this picture, as well.

A bigger scoreboard is going to be great, but the full length ribbon boards will make the stadium really light up. Thanks for the pictures.

And thanks for not making me try to post the pics to imgur or w/e and then try to figure out how to link them.

article says the crane is really a pile driver.

Construction workers start to prepare the site of the new Kidd Brewer Stadium video board on Tuesday, June 20. The pile driver pictured will create the pillars used to hold up the 2,500-square-foot video board. The construction also will include the addition of ribbon boards going the full length of the stands and an updated sound system.

As far as reusing the older smaller ribbon boards....could they put them field level along the bottom of the endzone seating section? Or would that fall under the rules of shining bright lights in players' eyes?

Is the current board still going to the baseball stadium?

Athletics denied the rumors of the old board going to the baseball field. There might be a contract stip that old boards go back to Daktronics.

Regardless, Gillin updated the BOT on construction. August 1 for KBS, August 15 for HCC.

But as the article/Gillin states, the rock issue at KBS is real.

Appsumer and HCC have a concert in HCC on Aug 5th. They better have the board ready before the 15th.

The fix is ultimately gonna be controlled blasting. The contractor had to do a month of blasting in site-prep for the Athletics Center. It's nothing new to KBS. Insurance by Lloyd's of London would make me feel a little better about TNT use at The Rock.

Hitting water at 35' would be very unusual.

If they use the dynamite, they better let me know about the times unless they want a crazed ptsd veteran trashing the Craft Enrichment Center when I'm on campus therapeutically making ugly ass clay mugs.
