Re: New video board
I was talking with Brian Tracy last week. He said they're starting with the Holmes Center project. I'd guess it will be a few weeks before we see significant progress at KBS.

Re: New video board
As of last week, all the components at KBS are audio equipment. There were several crates.

As far as I could tell, these also include the ribbon boards that'll go the entire length of the stands on both the east and west side.docjrh wrote:Took this pict this morning behind west side.

They're prepping to put in the pillars for the scoreboard.

Re: New video board
So, is the video board going to be rounded inwards? Based off of these pictures, the video board will follow the curvature of the track/sidewalk between the east stands and west stands.

Re: New video board
The markings in the picture might give the illusion of a curve, but it's flat/straight.8993 wrote:So, is the video board going to be rounded inwards? Based off of these pictures, the video board will follow the curvature of the track/sidewalk between the east stands and west stands.

Re: New video board
That board in the HCC is much large than I pictured. Might have to move the banners around a bit to see all of it.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: New video board
This is daunting task, exaggeration reported to me, or serious over engineering. No one found to drill a sufficient hole yet... needs to be 8'wide, 35' deep for the concrete and steel - testing hit big rock at 6' and they'll probably find water before 35'. What does this thing weigh and what kind of wind did the engineer work into those plans.

Rocks, water. That may answer the question for those wanting to lower the field.Appalachman wrote:This is daunting task, exaggeration reported to me, or serious over engineering. I don't understand who the hill isn't being brought closer to the field. Installing the board where it appears to be going is going to lock that side of the stadium into the same track and field shape, even after we get rid of the track.

Re: New video board
They would have to bring in huge amounts of dirt to regrade that hill. I'm thinking it's not in the budget and that the priority is going to be gettting rid of Owen's Field House and maximizing the building project in that end zone (rightly so, IMO). If our alumni would actually step up and donate we could probably afford to regrade the hill but it is what it is.Gonzo wrote:I don't understand who the hill isn't being brought closer to the field. Can't move the first shovel until the track is relocated.Appftw wrote:They would have to bring in huge amounts of dirt to regrade that hill. Re: New video board
So we're continuing to piecemeal KBS I guess. I thought we were finally being smart about expansion this time. It isn't the end of the world, but I think the board will look strangely far away when the track is gone and the current plan is complete.Appftw wrote:They would have to bring in huge amounts of dirt to regrade that hill. Re: New video board
The scoreboard in Scott Stadium at UVA is at the top of the hill about as far away as ours will be. I don't think our new board will look that far away considering its size and the fact that it will be closer than our current board.
