Stadium idea
Ok, I love the aesthetics of kbs mostly and the views but after looking at torontos stadium and the problems we have with rain and even snow, would people be open to this look? It would keep people in the stands...cut down on early season heat/sun issues on east side and if/when hill side or north end is altered, the weather won't deter fans. Seattle has this as well as u of Washington I think to a certain amount of covering. And...it would make it LOUD!!!! http://cms.ukintpress.com/UserFiles/web ... -north.png

Re: Stadium idea
I'd love to see this happen at KBS. I believe one of the original concepts put forth by Cobb and Peacock had a small roof over the east side stands. My biggest concern is, could such a structure hold up against the viscous winds that roll through Boone? We definitely don't want to see what happened at USA's indoor practice facility occur at KBS.

Re: Stadium idea
You saw the amount of rebar and concrete they are using for the new video board. Can you imagine what it would take for a covering like this? It literally would be like a big sail. And how limited would the effectiveness be considering wind blown rain, snow, and sleet?

Re: Stadium idea
I like the idea and the look. However, there are really only two games a year that this would benefit, the first and the last. I know the weather can be unpredictable all season, but traditionally that first game is hot and the last cold. I would much rather spend the money on other issues at hand.

Would your experience at Montana in the snow have been so awesome (other than the score ) if you had been "under a roof" ?PBR1893-BEER-HAT-GUY wrote:Ok, I love the aesthetics of kbs mostly and the views but after looking at torontos stadium and the problems we have with rain and even snow, would people be open to this look? Re: Stadium idea
The best game we ever lost...hands down. But think about it...and look at that stadium roof. It can handle the Toronto snow load and those support towers extend up and across so they can handle the wind for sure. To quote Buford T. Justice, "That som-bitch would be loud!" The noise of course would go up and out...but a cover over east/west and north stands would reverberate and push back towards goat hill. The thing I really want to see is a stadium much like these new soccer stadiums. Compact and hanging right over the action...black and gold out the wazoo and loud.

If Armanti had not been as beat up, I think that they would have just let him run it on in during that drive.

A couple of hours after that game I found one of my friends slumped on his couch, glass of bourbon in hand, blasting Temple of the Dog. He was a senior and very devastated after Quick's drop.

Re: Stadium idea
I would take seat expansion several times over as priority over roof. But appreciate your thinking out of the box (or in this case within the roof).

Re: Stadium idea
Thinking outside the box. I have a suggestion....
Tree houses in the trees behind the hill for those that want the exclusive nature of club seating, but can't afford the price, and are basically 8 years old at heart.

This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Re: Stadium idea
Here's an idea for stadium enhancement... Let's keep on kicking every arse that steps foot in KBS and make an extra 5,000+ people want to come to games on Saturdays in the high country.
