ESPN Bowl Projection

Unread post by YesAppCan » Mon Oct 23, 2017 7:41 am

Dollar General Bowl

Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, Alabama
Dec. 23, 7 p.m. (ESPN)

Bonagura: Toledo vs. Appalachian State
Hale: Toledo vs. Appalachian State

Not where I personally want to go, and not against Toledo again.

At this point Toledo would be the "best" team we could be matched against ---

Toledo has only one loss-Miami (FL), and could run the table the rest of the season in the MAC.

Would rather play someone new.

And I'd hope for NOLA since it would be the only chance that I could go.

I'm afraid Toledo would destroy us this year.

Either way, the chances we play them again seems high. Most projections have us going to Mobile or Montgomery and we'd meet a MAC team in either. I would love to get to head to New Orleans and play a team from the Conference USA (how cool would Marshall be?) but I really don't think we'll ever play there. I'm sure they'd take Troy or Ark St over us this year, or Lafayette too if they get eligible.

All we can do is focus on beating everyone and I'll be happy, though.

The bowl projections crack me up. Our tie-ins are the same so once we lost to Ga it pretty much became Dollar General or Camellia. As long as Troy or Ark St are decent one of them gets NOLA. And we are tied to MAC so there really isn’t any suspense.

Western Michigan would also seem to be a team we could meet.

Would rather not play Ohio or Toledo; been there, done that. Toledo has looked pretty damn good this year to!

Let’s just win this weekend against UMASS. Then we can say we will go somewhere.

IF we were to win the conference straight out, would or should that give us a nudge towards NOLA?

Doubtful, in my opinion. None of our bowls are obligated to take the conference champion. The NO Bowl picks first and they will always take ULaLa first, if they are eligible. They are much more likely to take stAte or Troy after that. I think App would be their fourth or fifth preference.

As long as we are in the Belt and the conference doesn't change its selection procedures, I think it's pretty likely that we'll go to Montgomery just about every time we are bowl eligible. Mobile and Orlando are possibilities, but less likely.

If we want NO v CUSA then everyone must purchase tickets as soon as DG & Co. put the pre-order up. App fans must $how NO we are willing to travel as many or more fans than stAte and Troy. Otherwise, we'll be in Mobile or Montgomery v MACtion.

Should we win Sun Belt, tie or out right, whatever bowl lines us up against another conference champion would be the best option IMO. Regardless of date and location.

Since App has been in the belt I can only think of one time a sunbelt team has gone bowling vs a conference champion (southern vs bowling green)

Someone said earlier that once the Wake game was over it was camellia or the dollar general Bowl (I despise that they are a sponsor) and from the projections coming out that seems to be what the media is thinking as well.

The sunbelt Wikipedia page says that none of our tie ins have a belt team playing a more desireable opponent. I'm just gonna say it, we have horrible bowl tie ins for the most part.

Every other conference has much more prestigious bowls and they seem to dump their #3 teams to face the belt. Troy after being ranked in the top 25 last year still ended up playing a 5 loss Ohio. Ark State as conference champs in 2015 lost to la tech who was 3rd place (3 way tie) in CUSA. App bowl games have been vs the 3rd place mac team both years.

The sunbelt never seems to play up in the post season. Just an early morning observation but that's off my chest.

I'm proud of how the team keeps winning I know that no matter where the bowl is or who they play it's a Big deal for the team and the school. I loved the rise episodes about the post season game form the last 2 seasons because you can see how excited they are just to be there.

Most years Mobile likes to pit the MAC Champion with the Sun Belt Champ.

I believe the CUSA allows their champion to pick which bowl they would prefer to go to. I could be wrong though.

I feel like if we were in that position and had their bowls most of us would want to take a big 12 or and American matchup. I would rather see App play a good American or Mountain Wet team than a MAC team again.

My wife wants to visit family in the Orlando area this Christmas anyway, so I'm hoping for the Cure Bowl.
