App State athletics... A $54 million impact to Boone area

THIS in particular...

“When we brought Miami in here, I didn’t think the impact could be bigger,” Gillin said. “(Wake Forest) is going to be bigger. There will be more people here. There will be more people in town than there were last year. There will be more people in the stadium — we’re still figuring how to get more porta-potties in here. We’ll have a bigger crowd here than last year.”

A feat never accomplished by Wofford.

Maybe I'm wrong and others correct me if I am, but I don't think we really need any more porta-potties (maybe he said it in jest). At the Miami game, I never had to wait one second for one to be open and I went down quite a few times (thanks beer).

Maybe not inside the stadium, but they could use more around certain tailgating areas. The three they had outside the Rivers St. deck for Miami were not enough.

(Though not as bad a nightmare as the ones at the Camellia Bowl tailgating lot.)

It's encouraging to see numbers on how athletics impact the local economy. It leaves to question how much does the university overall impact the local economy. Though I miss him, I'm glad to see David Jackson where he is and studies like this should give him more ammunition to enhance the relationship between Appalachian and Boone.

I realize Miami was a big deal but it is not lost on me that Wake Forest was the first P5 to agree to play in Boone. For reasons including proximity and history, I have looked to this game as the one where Appalachian and fans like us will have an opportunity to set the bar very high such that visiting teams and fans will have a good experience and want to come back. I have many WF friends and they are excited about coming to Boone. And I am excited to have them. It's games like this that challenge all of us to be good ambassadors for Appalachian.

I think some of that is mandated by the State based on a % of attendees.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Depends on how likely you think it is that ESPN will move it off that spot. Personally I think it probably will be 3:30 unless we beat UGA, then who knows?

I'm guessing 12:30 for the ACC Network

My guess for that spot would be Duke-UNC. Could also see BC-Clemson or even Pitt-GT.
