Herbie
He chose to pick out App State by name again this morning on Mike and Mike. Brought back memories of him saying on Game Day, almost 10 years ago, "nobody wants to see Michigan play Appalachian State." He commented that the kids at Michigan would rather open with Florida than Appalachian State. Now, I get what he's saying - for now. Notice he didn't use Boise in that scenario. If we continue to build, he's going to stop using us by name in a few years.
The classier move would have been to just say in general a G5 school. Who knows. The way ESPN is needing more eyes and ears, maybe they were hoping to create a little issue that could be replayed on Game Day Saturday when they will no doubt bring up the 10 year anniversary and they might play what he said then and what he said today. I wouldn't put it past them. Or him. After all, it is the mothership's 6:15 game.

Re: Herbie
I expect every game on 9/2, including Michigan-Florida, to be treated as the undercard to FSU-Bama. We'll all be competing for crumbs in terms of their studio shows. But at least we should get some eyeballs on us in the first half. Maybe longer if we hang around with UGA.
I don't know why Herbstreit seems to have us on the brain as Generic Small School Team. Maybe given that he was talking about Michigan, it was sort of a backhanded compliment. Or maybe not.

Re: Herbie
Saw and heard this in real-time and immediately thought of the same exact thing. That gameday when he made those remarks I remember that they also had actual cupcakes on set and Herbie went on his "teams shouldn't be playing cupcake FCS schools like App State" rant.ashugh wrote:He chose to pick out App State by name again this morning on Mike and Mike. I hope he choked on that cupcake when "App-a-lay-chun" beat Michigan....

ESPN can always use more eyes and ears, but they certainly are having a big hand in dictating our game times and days, which is obviously a two edge sword.

I'll take that as a win and not worry about the rest.huskie3 wrote:I too heard it live, at least this time he said the name correctly.
