The one myth from the uga game was time of possession. We had the ball for nearly 19 minutes the first half. Offense wasn't good but the TOP wasn't an issue.Appftw wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:20 pmI'm talking about the reality that our defense held Georgia to 31 points even though they were on the field for an inordinate amount of time. If they score more than that on us I will be shocked. Wake has some weapons on O for sure, but seeing them light up a bunch of sub-par (some even less than sub-par) teams does not scare me. Ye of little faith.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:13 pmReality sets in Appftw....We saw us play and Wake play.Appftw wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 11:56 amSeriously. It's amazing how people can go from thinking we have a legit defense against Georgia, to Chicken Little-ing against the Deacs.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 11:47 amLooking at the prediction thread, I'm surprised how many people think we'll get blown out, and how scary people find their offense and QB in particular.
I don't know if we'll win or be able to move the ball much, but I'll be surprised and very disappointed if we get rolled. I think we can bother Wolford.

He does, but if the other outside receiver is Lewis then Wake can just match the smaller guy up with him and put the 6'1" corner on Hennigan. (Assuming their corners follow individual receivers rather than sides of the field - not sure which they do. But I understand they play mostly zone.).NO.2 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 12:52 pmHenni might be green, but he's got the size advantage there.EastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 11:44 ammoonshine wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 10:10 amhttps://www.bloggersodear.com/2017/9/19 ... ve-clawsonEastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 9:57 amHas Wake released a depth chart? I'm not that familiar with their defensive personnel.
They have several good players on D. Two DL players to watch are DE - Ejiofor and DT - Rodney. The Deacs have a solid secondary with SS - Glenn, FS - Bates and ROV - Kemp.
Thanks. That's a pretty big 4-2-5 (rush end is 250, rover is 220). Probably won't be easy to out-physical.
Would be a great game to get Meadors back (or Mock, but that won't happen) to match up some size on that 5'10" corner. Maybe Letman can step up in that role.
On the flip side, glad to see their receivers aren't too big. That's been a problem for our small corners in the past.

Re: IT'S THE WAKE FOREST GAME ---
Going back a few days because I was thinking about this post and came up with this sobering stat:
Our average vs. P5s is virtually identical since the FBS move - 11.4 points (57 points in five games). But of those 57 points, 34 were scored in garbage time. If you only count points that we scored when the game was at least nominally in doubt (and I'm including the 10 vs. Miami), that's 4.6 points per game.
Put another way, in four of our last five P5 games, the game was either over or close to it before we scored a point:
Michigan - 42-0
Clemson - 38-0
Miami - 24-0
Georgia - 31-0
Again, I don't think Wake has the talent of those teams, so I'm not saying that happens Saturday. But I do think it underscores what a lot of us believe about the offensive game plan - we can't just try to run out the clock and hope they make a mistake, then wait to open it up until we're so far behind it doesn't matter.

Re: IT'S THE WAKE FOREST GAME ---
Scott tries to win the time of possession against these P5 teams, but maybe that's not the right way to go. With the exception of Tennessee, we have been crushed by all teams in the P5 world. At this point in our journey, I, along with most on here, would say our defense is more likely to compete against a P5 offense than vice versa. Perhaps we need to speed it up on offense to try and catch the defense off guard (like the old days), especially since our receivers cannot seem to get separation. This is especially true when playing at home. Perhaps we are better conditioned to play at higher elevations and speeding it up might wear down opposing defenses.....Just a thought.....seriously though, think about it.

The caveat with our offense playing a faster tempo is the absolute necessity to make 1st downs - if not, our defense gets no rest ---

I'm guessing that we had more success with the hurry up offense when Armanti was scurrying about? Just a guess..

Re: IT'S THE WAKE FOREST GAME ---
Hurry up offense does not work if you don't make first downs. Anybody want a great example of that should go back and watch Wake and Utah St game. Both teams played fast offense, Wake's O worked because they moved the chains, Utah St shot themselves in the foot because all they did was rapidly run 3 plays and then punt. In one instance they ran off a total of 12 seconds and punted. That just played right back into Wake's hands and you could easily see Utah St defense got gassed.

I don't think any offense works if you don't get first downs. But y'all are right, a fast three-and-out is probably worse than a slow one.
Personally I'm less concerned with changing tempo than I am with changing playcalling. I'm also not sure that going up-tempo is something you can install really well in one week if it's not what you've been practicing since August. Teams that play that way normally play (and practice) that way all the time.

Run, Run, Pass, Punt seems to be the extent of the play calling in the the P% gamesEastHallApp wrote: ↑Thu Sep 21, 2017 3:28 pmI don't think any offense works if you don't get first downs. But y'all are right, a fast three-and-out is probably worse than a slow one.

This is pretty awesome. Although if we lose, I'm afraid it will become this year's version of "we shouldn't have had a pep rally."

All "we" can do is cheer for a team and enjoy ourselves. "We" don't play. If you, do----- get off message boards!

Looks like Wake didn't sell all their tickets. Anyone trying for these, have fun with this line!
