ESPN3

ok - the last 2 weeks I have not been able to cast the ESPN3 livestream from my android to my tv like I have done in years past - I have called TWC (now Spectrum and "so much better" in their minds only) and have been told they are trying to work out the glitches and haven't been able to do so - Really???
I would certainly like to get this resolved before Saturday's game and it looks like most of our next games will be ESPN3 only ---
Has anyone else had this problem and/or any solutions?

I watched Saturday's game on Spectrum. No problems other than the terrible production quality of the broadcast and the buffering.

I have AT&T and changed from my laptop to my iPhone6S. The laptop feed kept freezing but very little issue on the cell phone. I've never had a problem with ESPN3 until this year. I had the same problem trying to watch the replay of the SSU game after I got home from App.

I also had issues with Spectrum after the merge with TWC. I never had issues with TWC. Last week, I finally called and they could tell there was latency in the modem so I went and picked up a new modem/router combo from their local office. It worked great for about 3 hours then was even worse. I called back and they saw even more latency in the modem/router that was causing the issues. Last night, I went and picked up a Google WiFi Mesh network from best buy and no more issues.

The problem with Spectrum (and the technician told me this) is their equipment is not up to par with today's standards for Wifi. You will be better off getting your own Modem/Router combo than using what they provide. Just make sure it is compatible with their service prior to purchasing. Now that I know 100% the issue was their equipment (since it's working fine using my own router), I will also be purchasing my own modem and switch, returning theirs, and not pay the monthly rental fee for terrible equipment.

WatchESPN works best with a ROKU Premier or FireTV using the ethernet option. If using Firestick, 5ghz wireless is better than 2.4ghz.

You can get one on budget for less than$150. The Google Wifi is $119 for one and that covers 1500 sq ft. If you have a larger house, you would need to purchase another one. They also have 3 packs on sale for $260 (I think) right now.The nice thing about the Google Wifi is it also acts as a wifi extender, automatically uses the best band (2.4 or 5g), automatically changes channels to less crowded, etc. It is more expensive, but the mesh network makes it worth it.

Also, Android isn't the problem. Both Android and iOS use the same protocols to connect. The only difference would be if it's an older android and chromecast vs. newer iOS. Either way, I can guarantee you would have the same issues if you were using iOS as well. Spectrum's equipment is just terrible in certain markets.

I have an older Samsung tablet and a first generation Chromecast that i used to cast last weeks game on Spectrum 200 WiFi. I also have the Spectrum modem/router combo, but I'm about to switch to my own since it is running way slower than it should.

Having said that it worked well except near the end of the game when I had a little buffering.

The thing none of us can control is the sheer number of streams ESPN has going at any one time. I noticed when watching a couple CFL games in July and early August before the volume picked up that the quality was insanely good.

I have direct tv and was streaming from the ESPN app of an Apple TV, and mine was doing the same thing. At least 4-5 plays each series, and usually on critical 3 downs. Very frustrating

I used a fire stick on spectrum and it buffered only 3 or 4 times so no issues here.

I watched on my desktop since I am a DISH customer, but the buffereing was so bad that my adopted son and I gave up and watched on our iPhone 5 and 6. His was a few seconds ahead of mine so he knew we won Saturday a few seconds before I did. :)
