Parking for Game vs Illinois State

Unread post by ISUMatt » Tue Nov 27, 2012 4:13 pm

Hello Appalachian State University!!!

I will be making the 12 hour drive to see your beautiful campus and Stadium this weekend and was wondering if any of you can help this poor city boy figure out your playoff parking. I noticed you have many lots, most of which are reserved for donors, so coming from a school with 1 pay lot to tailgate in, parking looks a tad confusing and intimidating!! Thanks in advance and good luck this weekend. My feelings on the game are either ISU squeaks by or ASU blows us away

Matt, thanks for stopping in. I hope you enjoy your visit to the High Country! Parking can be a pain on game day and I'm sure some others can chime in but here is my advice:

There are a couple of churches (Boone UMC and First Baptist) on King St. between College St. and Appalachian St. that have parking. It used to be by donation but it may have changed to the $5-$10 range.

If you aren't there early enough for those, there are also some spots on Highway 321 near the intersection with Clement St. across from the Holmes Center and the Hardee's that usually have plenty of space. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the stadium but if you don't mind the walk, availability is usually not an issue and it is a nice walk through campus. Not a big tailgate scene but you should definitely be able to find a spot.

You can always try your luck finding a spot downtown on King Street as well but they are very scarce on game days.

I would try to park at one of those spots and then walk to the Stadium lot for tailgating. Most of the folks in the Stadium lot should be accommodating to the guests, including several on here.

Hope that helps, safe travels!

Matt....the First Baptist Church on KING ST. has parking for $20. They hardly ever sell out and I doubt that will be the case Saturday. It is on the corner of King and College Street. It is a short walk over to the stadium and the views are incredible......plus I have an offer you can't refuse! Right beside the Baptist Church Parking lot is the Library Deck Parking Deck. Come to the top of the deck and walk all the way to the end where you can't walk anymore.

Ask for me Chip, John, Drew, James. or any of us and we'll take care of the pre-game tailgate lunch for you.....I am cooking Chicken and Dumplin's and others are bringing other stuff. You do not have to bring anything. You are in the south and it is how we treat visitors!

I will message you my phone number and when you get up you can call.

This is SERIOUS offer! We always have plenty!

Chip

I echo Chip's advice! I am also at the Library deck, but one level below him. I usually come by at least once a tailgate to say hey. Great atmosphere up there with an even better group of guys!

Matt, check the Redbird board, too. ASUMike and I have both put some info on parking and links to maps and such on there. See you Saturday. Travel safely.

If everything else falls through you are welcome to park in my yard. Just a 1/2 mile from KBS but it oddly enough it's uphill both ways. :>}
Safe travels and don't hesitate to take any of the offers up.

Isn't the Boone Christmas parade Saturday also? That ought to make parking even more fun!
