Re: Please don't......
My question is this:
To set the stage:
we are using a backup holder
Missed a FG earlier
PAT blocked earlier
On 4th down (Penalty for offsides, kick didn't count) the kick was missed
After the 4th down penalty, we received a 1st down and had 10 seconds. Given the above facts, why not run a play? Maybe it doesn't change anything, but 10 seconds was plenty of time to take a shot at the end zone with an underneath route to move the ball and get an easier kick. Underneath a were working well on the drive.
Personally I was shocked we didn't run a play after the penalty and kept FG unit on the field.

Re: Please don't......
New holder, high snap messed up kicker timing. I believe people were ready to Lynch our previous kicker after misse a field against Liberty. Get behind him. We will need him again one day.

I echo those sentiments. Lamb played a great game. I was worried that he wouldn't make it through the first half with the shots that he was taking. Another guy that deserves a Ball Out award is Upshaw. Dude was hurt, went out of the game and came back in when Moore went down on the next play. He could barely lift his left arm and was in obvious pain, but he fought for that first down. If it were allowed, that kid would be eating steak all week on my dime.

Not sure of your point, however, if it's expected that we lose to a team simply because they're P5, then why even bother scheduling them? I don't buy (no pun intended) the "money game" logic either.AppinATL wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2017 10:06 amAnd being as we are a G5 program, that's not only to be expected, but it better than the other way around.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2017 8:21 pmYes, we have been successful with G5 competition, however, our record against P5 competition is pathetic.

Re: Please don't......
After further thought, we do tend to schedule one top 25 P5 team each season, that's fine. I agree, the probability we win these type games is slim to none, something that may happen once or twice in a lifetime. Many App fans are starving for a victory against a team from a P5 Conference, myself included. Therefore, how about scheduling a winnable P5 game occasionally as well? Teams like Temple, Vandy, Boston College, etc., not as easy as it sounds I guess. Once again, defeating a Georgia, Penn State, etc. is pretty far out there, it is what it is. But, a Temple, Boston College, etc. is definitely doable. Hope this clears up some confusion.

Re: Please don't......
We need to schedule P5s that are in our recruiting footprint. I would love to go out to Oregon St or Wash. St and and play but it is t advantageous for us to do that. Unfortunately, there aren't too many winnable P5 options within that footprint.

My bad I thought they were, since they played Wake Forest in a bowl game last year.

Another issue about scheduling winnable P5 games, seems that between the time we schedule them until we play, for some reason they're on an upswing.

Ha! That was a good oneLongrifle28 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2017 7:58 amAnd one more thing, I guess the thing that I am most disappointed about is that I can't rub it in the noses of those arrogant, pompous, silver spoon fed, holier than thou, better educated, we shouldn't be playing App State, hot air spewing buffoons....
Oh and to any Wake fan reading this, you are not our "Super Bowl". While we enjoy playing your team, you ain't Michigan, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, or hell even Louisiana Monroe. LOL
Re: Please don't......
So after sleeping on it I've found the word. Polished. There are lots of ifs for yesterday, kicks, penalties , dropped passes, we really just ran that?, mental mistakes. We need some polish. Last week we won in spite of ourselves not so yesterday. While we had more offense they had more polish. I mean look at their helmets (jk). We're a little rough around the edges. I think we have the big picture we need some polish.

Re: Please don't......
Does anyone have video of these plays? People keep using the word "blocked", and at least for the PAT it is not accurate. Watched the play, and the replay on the board and kick was just bad. Snap and hold looked ok to my layman's eye.

Re: Please don't......
It was blocked on the PAT. The ball went backwards before Critcher recovered it. The FG before the half was just poorly struck. The first attempt to win was wide, the second was blocked.

Re: Please don't......
On the final FG, Wake put a 6'5" WR (#7) on defense and he jumped 12-14 feet in the air. His hips were above everyone's heads.

Re: Please don't......
For the past week most on here talked about how bad we would lose to Wake, how bad our offense is, and how great their offense has been. Now after we lose on a blocked kick, and have several other self inflicted mistakes y'all are saying this was an embarrassing loss. I'm sorry but that is ridiculous guys.
We outplayed Wake for most of the game, and proved (just as we did at UT) that we can compete with solid P5 teams. That's pretty impressive for a 4th year FBS program that doesn't have a full roster of FBS players.
We still have a great chance to win the Sun Belt, go to another bowl, and possibly break our own record by winning a third bowl in our third season eligible.
I was as upset as anyone (I think there is a dent in one of the boxes at the top of 214 from me hitting it), but what our guys are doing is pretty special. We let a great chance slip away, but that happens sometimes. It could be a whole lot worse. Just look at Statesboro.

When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

According to the Wake players, the answer to your question is NO!WataugaMan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2017 9:01 amAfter the first blocked kick (extra point), were any adjustment made? I wasn't at the game, therefore, I don't know.MarxistMountaineer wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2017 8:49 amBut if he would have made the other kick he missed or even the extra point we wouldn't have needed the kick to win. Or a miss would have at least gotten us OT if he had made the XP. Again, blocks sometimes aren't the kickers fault. So it's tough to put blame on anyone. Feel like he was missing either way though.
