If you have to rely on a kicker to save your hide, then you need to evaluate the road of failures and mishaps that got you to that point.

Rubino has had Critcher as his holder for the fall camp and for our first three games. The two work on kicking together and Critcher knows how Rubino likes the ball placed on the ground.

When the first extra point kick was blocked Critcher was injuried trying to recover the blocked point after. He did not return. Zeb Speir #2 became the new holder for the rest of the game and I believe was a factor why the ball came out low and left on the halftime FG attempt as well as when it came time to win the game.

The best team did not win today. Time to regroup and win our next conference game in two weeks.

Rubino was bad but all in all we didn't finish our drives. 500 yards of offense and 19 points. Worse than Rubino was the offsides on 4th and 4. Completely changed momentum.

Amen. I hope Michael Rubino get his degree and has a wonderful life at another university, but GTFO of here.
What a classless, idiotic post. A FG attempt is more than just a kick.

It's not that this game was a close dogfight throughout where someone just had to get beat. We were THOROUGHLY better all 60 minutes
This somes it up dude. Nothing more to be said. Thank you for boiling my bile and anger down so eloquently!!!!
Did you miss their first drive?

Impressed overall. I expected us to lose somewhat badly. Still missing 3 WRs and both RBs are dinged up.

But disappointed we didn’t win when we had a few chances. When we miss a pat against a P5 it dooms is it seems. I said that as soon as that one was blocked.

Our biggest challenge in conference is coming up next. That scares me currently. Need to get everyone healthy.

We had a game-tying kick blocked against Furman in 2005 (regular season). That kicker turned out to be pretty clutch.

We lost our last playoff game on a blocked PAT. That kicker's an NFL punter now.

It's not always just the kicker's fault and we've got to give these young players a chance to grow.

I said earlier Michael could have been the hero, but not his fault we lost. Lots of reasons and most of them we inflicted upon ourselves. It never comes down to one play but I do have one play in mind if I had to pick one and it was not a kick.

It was a very exciting game but a tough loss. We just made too many mistakes to win. We aren't quite good enough to overcome our mistakes. We also made some pretty incredible plays to keep us in it. Somehow against P5's we have to get more efficient. We have to get points when we have the opportunity. Plenty of coachable moments to work on.

I am not embarrassed by this loss, just disappointed. I hope some of you people didn't jump off a cliff last night.

OK. I need to know for sure if we had an ACC officiating crew yesterday. They were awful. Reminded me of past SOCON incompetent crews we had.

And one more thing, I guess the thing that I am most disappointed about is that I can't rub it in the noses of those arrogant, pompous, silver spoon fed, holier than thou, better educated, we shouldn't be playing App State, hot air spewing buffoons....

Oh and to any Wake fan reading this, you are not our "Super Bowl". While we enjoy playing your team, you ain't Michigan, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, or hell even Louisiana Monroe. LOL

Still trying to talk the local App grad from the 70s off the ledge, I'm making progress. Basically he believes we should be competing much better against P5 competition (which is true). Anyway, I'm beginning to open his eyes to our overall success since joining FBS. In a way, he is "stuck in the 70s", a time before we moved to Div IAA. For individuals with his mindset, maybe if we scheduled more Wakes, Temples, Army, etc. and less Georgia, Penn State, etc. things would even out. He needs as P5 victory/fix in the worst possible way.

Sunbelt officiating crew. Poorly timed mistakes and only 19 points with 500 yards of offense.

One guy without fault is Taylor. Dude was lights out. Wish we would let him it air it out more.

Everything can be fixed or improved. Learn from it (hopefully).

But if he would have made the other kick he missed or even the extra point we wouldn't have needed the kick to win. Or a miss would have at least gotten us OT if he had made the XP. Again, blocks sometimes aren't the kickers fault. So it's tough to put blame on anyone. Feel like he was missing either way though.

He might not have the strongest arm, but his accuracy is stellar which makes up for it. His placement on those long completions to Duffield (TD) and Hennigan yesterday was pinpoint. He played a hell of a game and deserved a win.

After the first blocked kick (extra point), were any adjustment made? I wasn't at the game, therefore, I don't know.

It's easy to just blame the kicker. However, his regular holder was hurt on the extra point block. There were obvious problems with the blocking as Wake had penetration on every kick yesterday. Having an unfamiliar holder makes a huge difference for a kicker. Also, I noticed that none of the snaps were on target. Overall, the blame goes on the entire kicking unit.

Yes, we have been successful with G5 competition, however, our record against P5 competition is pathetic.
And being as we are a G5 program, that's not only to be expected, but it better than the other way around.
