Positives from yesterday's game

Unread post by NewApp » Sun Sep 24, 2017 6:03 am

There seem to be enough posts on here about the negative aspects of yesterday's game.
Let's see how many posts we can get emphasizing the positive aspects of the event.
Here's a start: we finally got the Demon Deacons to come to Appalachian.

Hennigan may be the most productive true freshman we have had in a long while. As impressive as he is at WR, his steadiness as a PR invokes a sense of security. We are missing some pieces of the puzzle at WR, but he hasn't missed a beat.

Upshaw's 4th down conversion was all heart. Watching on TV you could tell, he was clearly spent and he basically dragged himself to the 1st down.

Plenty of positives. One of the best game day atmospheres I have ever witnessed. The majority of the crowd was in the game and stayed until the end. Our team played their guts out. The AD is listening and there was a good mix of band and audio from the scoreboard. New scoreboard was awesome. Beautiful weather. The sky divers were magnificent.

Great weather. Good to see a decent crowd well into the fourth quarter. App played much better even with our mistakes than most thought we would after the first three games. Loud crowd. A day in Boone or anywhere in the high country is never bad, win or lose. Women, women, women.

We showed some positives that if we can fix the dumb mistakes should help us finish undefeated in Sun Belt.

Taylor Lamb. He played well with pash rushers in his face on almost every snap.

we punted the ball back to them at the 2:13 mark and actually held them (Flory) and got the ball back w/ 1:40 and drove enough to get a realistic shot at game winner?? Clutch stuff rite there...
I agree on Hennigan all the way around, his sure hands on punt returns, especially the one in this last sequence, was huge.

The long TD by Watkins on the shovel pass, good to see him get loose and outrun the defenders. He seems like a great young person that just works hard

Impressive LB play and the defense was very good overall

With the exception of a couple poor play calls, our offense played very well. Our offensive line men created holes and did not allow a sack, ALL WRs played awesome, RBs were productive and defense played well and the Aussie punters continues to impress ALOT.

Kickingneeds a lot of work and the dumb penalties cost us the game. Also, refs were terrible. However, I think there are way more positives from this game than negatives.

We sat behind some Wake Forest fans who were so impressed by our stadium, large crowd and loud student section, just the over all game day experience.
They commented over and over on Thomas Hennigan , they were familiar with him from the Greensboro area and said we had diamond in the rough.
Could not agree more!!

Most of the game was positive, we played pretty well. Just a few bone headed mistakes and special teams comes back to bite us in the butt.

I saw a team yesterday than can go 8-0 in the Sun Belt this season.

With that said, how do you see Wake finishing?

Hennigan and Lamb were very good. Definately think the WR group will be great with Meadors/Evans/Adams, if that ever happens.

They have one of the toughest remaining schedules in all FBS. 7-5/8-4 is likely.

What really impressed me the most was not Lamb’s completions, but incompletions. He through a couple that could have been picked, but most important to me, he didn’t hold the ball long enough to get sacked. He rolled out of the pocked and if he couldn’t pick up any yards on the ground he threw it away. Avoiding those 8-10 yard losses are critical.
