Karl Benson, the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference, told the Las Cruces Sun News that the league won’t discuss expansion plans until Monday at the earliest.
The Sun Belt is expected to add teams after dwindling to eight football-playing members on Thursday whenMiddleTennesseeStateand Florida Atlantic announced that they were moving to ConferenceUSA.
Appalachian State is among programs considered to be a candidate for a possible invitation to join the Sun Belt.
“Come Monday, when the dust settles, we’ll tackle the issue,” Benson told the Sun News.
“We haven’t started the process of evaluating (possible) new members.”

We went through this back in May! Is he going to start all over? This guy loves to take his time and drag his feet... Destroyed the WAC and now potentially the Sun Belt. Better act fast before everyone is gone and your conference folds.

I dont believe it for a second that he doesnt know who will be joining the SBC. It might not be official, but I guarantee he has already had informal talks with the schools, about the process of joining. Its probably just a formality, he needs to meet with his own bosses, the chancellors of the member schools to make sure they are all on the same page. He will probably take a week or so, to make sure everything is in place than he will move forward with the invitations.
