I think he should sit for the remainder of the season, provided the backup does an adequate job, then let him earn his spot back next season. As it was mentioned above, Matics had a rough JR year, he sat the last half, (recovering from an injury I believe) and was nearly automatic his senior year, until our bowl game where he missed 2 FGs before kicking the game winner

It’s past time at this point to try the backup. Right now Rubino’s Head is spinning and I’m not sure Freud could get him back. Unfortunately kicking is a pass/fail endeavor and a sustained funk gets you beat. We’re winning so it ok now but when it’s not...
There are so many things I could say here....all inappropriate. I'll just say Freud's expertise is not in sports psychology. Although now that I reflect he did all our problems to sexual tension..... :D

This team is banged up big time. Next week's gave vs UMASS means absolutely nothing. Coaches need to look at it as an opportunity to get some players some rest. Moore should not sniff the field next week. Obviously you play the game to win, but goal should be to get some key players rested and ready for final 4 conference games.

While I do think we need a change in our kicking game, I would never boo the kid. Booing is probably making the whole thing worse! There were some even booing during his intro for starting lineups. That's pathetic.

Now, I did boo yesterday, but it was for the officials.

Boo the coaches for leaving a kicker in who needs to sit...maybe. Boo a college kid kicker...never.

I’m sure Rubino is a great kid and is doing his best but this is getting crazy. Attempts of 30 yards or really anything under 45 yards should not be such an absolute adventure. We are seriously at a point where it’s less than a 50% chance of even getting the kick off.
Well just this season in the NFL (not yet half over) there have been 21 missed extra points which is a kick of 33 yards and can be kicked anywhere between the hashes - as well as 12 FGs from the 30s - the best kickers in the world have missed 33 kicks from the 30s but we expect our kicker to make every one??? - Granted, missing 3 in one game is disheartening for him but come on people...

And NO - you don't boo our coaches for sticking with the kicker ---

Satt should speak up and chastise fans for booing Rubino. And I'm starting to worry the UT may be on Satts radar.

Booing anyone like we do the opposing team when they enter is boring and immature. Booing your own players just makes you an ass.

UT will not hire Satt. I doubt he even makes the long list. Not a knock on him but I doubt they go down the G5 road again.

Well I don't see how you don't boo the refs. Those guys collectively couldn't figure out that they needed to replay third down?

Absolutely don’t expect him to make them all. It just should not be at a point where it’s an absolute adventure just to get the ball over the line. I’m not even saying remove him. Just saying it’s getting crazy.

I agree it has become an adventure and most of us with brains don't expect him to make them all - Again, if I were the coach, he would start again this week ---

At this point, I give him a week breather. Let him kickoff and see where his head is afterwards. Similar to how Satt handled Matics in 2014. Mentally it's not fair to Rubino at this point.

If Rubino weren't the better kicker, he wouldn't be in the game to begin with. Fans booing just make things worse. Staton kicking the final extra point sends a message, you have to improve during the game.

Very true. Everybody around us in our section was like "What the heck?!" Not even that, but allowing us to kick for 4th down reviewing it by saying you're reviewing the fair catch, and then going back and replaying the 3rd down. Seriously?!

The Ref must be in PR. That was quite the spin given for the review.

Had no idea what happened. Was watching and maybe the beverages got in the way but how can that happen? Go to 4th down, punt, review and roll it back to 3rd?

I think that is exactly what Coach Satterfield did when he inserted Staton for the final XP - in reality the game was over at that point and why put Rubino back out there for a kick that would most likely mean nothing? - I think that was a great move by Coach to give Rubino a break and give the other kid some time - Again, my opinion only, Rubino would be my kicker going into this next game - if he struggles, then give him a break but a good coach doesn't bench a starter for one bad game ---

I did boo the refs on that one, though at least it was corrected and in the end CCU came out a few yards better so they should not be complaining either. But dang that was a bonehead decision to make it 4th down.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.
