Re: Opening line for UMass
We need to break out offensively. And have defensive game like last years schedule. And watching the injury report and past games, 3.5 is being nice.

I'd like to see us play four quarters without major injuries.

Which site? This seems very low against a 1-6 team. I was expecting at least -7. Still watch for my site to post.

Re: Opening line for UMass
UMass has played most games very close and had a big game against an awful GaSo. They are also playing at home. App has not beaten any FBS team badly so that spread is pretty expected. If App wins by 3 it's fine with me. My blood pressure can't get much higher after the last 5 weeks.

Re: Opening line for UMass
This game could be a close one. Despite their horrendous record, all loses were by 10 points or less so they were in every game. Now that they got the big win last week, they may have turned the corner on the season. Hope we aren't win #2 for them, but we are very banged up and thin and they are at home and I assume confident. I see another very close game for us against a team that if healthy we should destroy.

Re: Opening line for UMass
ESPN Matchup Predictor has us as 64.5% chance of winning this game...and had some big plays not been made for us against TXST, NMSU, & Idaho we'd be sitting at 2-5 instead of 5-2

Re: Opening line for UMass
The Minutemen have a legit NFL quality TE in Breneman who can take advantage of the middle of the field. CCU exposed this area and I believe Whipple will take a page from Chadwell's playbook and continue to attack the middle.
The UMASS QB, Ford, is having a nice season so far despite being sacked 29 times (15 at home over 3 games). He's completing just under 64% of his throws, averaging over 268 YPG with 13 TD's and 2 INT's so far this season. Woody has to find a way to get consistent pressure on him and not allow Ford to sit in the pocket and pick the D apart.
The Minutemen D is giving up over 30 points a game. Hopefully the offense can find some consistency and help to drive that average up. This may turn out to be very similar to the CCU game.

Re: Opening line for UMass
UMass is not good, but they did score a blowout win this weekend and we haven't blown out anybody with a pulse this year. Based on that the line is about where I'd have guessed, and honestly I'd take a three-point win right now and run with it.

Re: Opening line for UMass
They have been pretty close in all their losses, they appear to possibly be sort of even with us if we had those close games go the wrong way. I'm not taking any game for granted this year.

Re: Opening line for UMass
I would like to see our defense DOMINATE come Saturday. I want qb hurries, sacks, tackles for loss, stonewall their running backs, just shut them down. On offense, I want to see smash mouth, run it down your throat game plan with passes mixed for good measure. I want to treat them like red headed step children, ruin their Saturday, hit their qb so hard that it hurts his grandchildren , then score one more time just for good measure. However, I will take a one point, bite your fingernails, type of victory like we seem to be having this year. Carry on.
