Re: Foot Shooting
There are a lot of physical things that still need to be addressed. No one can argue that, but probably the most difficult aspect of coaching is motivation. We played uninspired football yesterday. Maybe a mid season road trip for a non conference game was just not a motivating factor. SS even said that he wasn't pleased with it but it "is what it is". Attitude reflects leadership. Factor in the record of the opponent and it is a recipe for disaster. I imagine that the players are embarrassed this morning that they allowed this to happen. But the thing with young people is that they don't generally think far enough ahead to fully understand how outcomes like this would make them feel; partly because they don't beleive that outcome is possible. That is something coaches, as older individuals understand but not cannot coach. I could talk to my kids all day long about outcomes. But in the end, these are lessons that have to be felt.

Football is not an undefeated sport and losses are a part of life. I never expect to win every game, but the lack of discipline since the last couple of years of Moore through today only point to one person.

Re: Foot Shooting
So you're referring to the on field discipline versus the off field discipline, right? Because the off the field discipline has gotten infinitely better.

Re: Foot Shooting
We’ve been lucky this year to win games the way we have. Luck ran out yesterday.
UMass was much more physical than us on the line of scrimmage. Penalties and turnovers doomed us. Too many injuries to our experienced players.
I keep expecting to see us improve and turn the corner, but maybe this is what this years teams identity is. Hopefully we get some guys back and finish strong. Or, maybe we continue on the path we’re on and struggle to get to bowl eligibility. See y’all next Saturday.

Re: Foot Shooting
Well, there was the stabbing incident in May that involved 3 football players. But, generally yes I am talking mainly about all the unsportsmanlike conduct calls and just bonehead penalties. It just seems to get worse every week. And yesterday it cost us the game.

Re: Foot Shooting
Ill be damned if I will place the blame of any loss on Satt. You win as a team and lose as a team. Granted end of game situations are magnified but Satt didn't fumble or miss a kick. He didn't hold or miss a call or drop passes. He didn't miss a block on the Watkins sweep. So move on from even thinking about that.

And the two of the players involved, one being the victim, are no longer with the team.sixtoes9134 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 7:44 amWell, there was the stabbing incident in May that involved 3 football players. Re: Foot Shooting
To conclude, it is what it is, what's in the past is in the past. It will be interesting to see how this team responds. Time to shake it off and move forward! Go Apps!! And, that's all I have to say about that:

Re: Foot Shooting
The more I think about it, I agree. One person is responsible for the unsportsmanlike penalties. The player who commits it. But I'm guessing that's not what you were hinting.sixtoes9134 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 7:44 amWell, there was the stabbing incident in May that involved 3 football players. Re: Foot Shooting
Two of the Unsportsmanlike penalties in the last couple of weeks have been on coaches. The one on Holt is the only one that, IMO, is indefensible. The one on the assistant coach yesterday was for leaving the bench to, maybe restore order. Without knowing the full story, it is difficult to speak to what happened yesterday. As for the other UC calls yesterday, I find it a bit odd that our players were outnumbered 85-11 on their sideline and we got the majority of the UC calls.

It's one of those years. Can't enjoy the good times without a few bumps in the road.

Maybe because they belong on their sideline and we don't.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 8:28 amTwo of the Unsportsmanlike penalties in the last couple of weeks have been on coaches. Understand that, but you don't leave your teammate alone.bcoach wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 8:54 amMaybe because they belong on their sideline and we don't.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 8:28 amTwo of the Unsportsmanlike penalties in the last couple of weeks have been on coaches. Re: Foot Shooting
Are you suggesting we should have cleared our bench and had our team rush their sideline? Being in the stands it was actually refreshing to see the discipline of our team not to rush their sideline when their entire team swelled around our 11 guys. Wish they had that same discipline on the field and we could avoid some of the penalties we keep getting.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 9:12 amUnderstand that, but you don't leave your teammate alone.bcoach wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 8:54 amMaybe because they belong on their sideline and we don't.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 8:28 amTwo of the Unsportsmanlike penalties in the last couple of weeks have been on coaches. Re: Foot Shooting
No I am not suggesting that our players on our sideline should have rushed the field. Not by any measure is that acceptable. However, once the UMass player got up from being shoved out of bounds, he and several of his teammates surrounded Franklin. The QB even initiated a helmet to helmet contact while getting in Franklin's face. Understandably their players are upset, especially after having their teammate carted off the field. But they were the aggressors after the hit, which wasn't terribly vicious, but the right call.

Until he develops the shanks too. It's not a question of will he, it's a question of when. But he looked good last night.

Re: Foot Shooting
I have watched a lot of football over the last 60+ years and there have been teams who play to the level of the competition whether up or down - This APP team is one of the best examples of that for which I have ever seen ---

Re: Foot Shooting
Can someone please explain the penalty on stout during the interception return for TD? Was targeting not the call on the field, which after review it was reversed? If so, I thought that after review and targeting was not confirmed, the player got to continue playing and the penalty was erased.
How then, was the targeting call reversed yet the 15 yd penatly stayed? Should it have not been a pick-6?
