We've been Spoiled

Unread post by Rekdiver » Sun Nov 05, 2017 9:23 am

Ok my fellow Apps, stating the obvious We had a heckuva run, one injury free. We are accustomed to rolling over people and that ain't happening this year. Of course we are surprised, mad and frustrated but this ain't the time to jump off Howard's Knob. The team will finish 9-4- 8-5 and for us that is unacceptable. It's not the end of the world and our student athletes have earned our loyalty especially these seniors. This is a bump in the road take a deep breath and enjoy the games for the positive aspects and glimpses of greatness that represent ASU. Even Ohio State got 55 hung on them this past weekend. Let's not be like Carolina fans and quit our team or act entitled. Hope to see all Thursday night.

No way am I giving up on this team....reality is we are 5-4...4-1 in sunbelt. We 7wont be conference champs but can still finish 7-1 in the sunbelt and can still go bowling...or we could be 5-7...but i really think this team will pull through...we have injuries tons of injuries and it happens. I am excited about the youth we have and what they will bring next year. I worry more about our offensive line going into next season...that seems to be the biggest question mark

I agree Rekdiver, it kind of feels like we're playing like a team is supposed to be that's transitioning from FCS to FBS, but our expectations were higher. The near victories agains UT and WF and the domination of Sun Belt opponents has raised our perceptions of where we should be. I think we're probably in position even now, that's better than where we "should" be at this point in our transition. We still have a shot at the SBC title, even if it is shared, and still a shot at going to and winning a bowl game. I think it's important that we show our current players and prospective players that we stick with our team no matter what. I for one, will be sitting in what's most likely a cold rain Thursday night yelling and pulling for our guys.

Spoiled? Yes , I made that observation a few weeks back. This also reminds me of the old saying..."you never really appreciate what you've got until it's gone".The two previous seasons were extraordinary in many ways.

I feel some of our fan base is looking to be miserable, and when you do that, you generally get more than you bargained for. East Carolina has done this a couple of times: once at the end of Steve Logan's tenure, and again just recently with Ruffin McNeil.

Now, more than ever, we need to be careful.

A lot of folks tend to lose sight of the fact that other schools actually recruit and attempt to field teams that can compete. Many of us look down our noses at the Sunbelt and feel like we should just curb stomp everybody we can play. Amazingly other schools actually have athletes just like we do. All that being said the apparent defensive effort yesterday looked bad and the mental errors made against U Mass led to that loss. Clean up issues the past two weeks and some of these threads either don’t exist or include markedly different responses. When you aren’t dominating there is a fine line between winning and losing.

Yes, I'm guilty as charged to being frustrated, a lot of us are. However, looking at our last three games, as you said 9-4 or 8-5 is a definite possibility. It's time we all pick ourselves up, dust off and move forward. I plan to be there Thursday night as App gets their 6th win. Also, by bowl time maybe we will have had time to heal some, injury wise. See it different. We play in a weak conference and should do well. Especially when you don't play the few good teams in the Sun Belt. Guess I'm spoiled but we aren't playing murders row.

Anyone can spin the sunshine all they want. This team was picked to win the SBC, has the personnel to do it, and is way, way underperforming. The past two weeks we have lost to teams that are among the worst in the nation. Neither even ranks in the Sagarin top 100!! Acknowledging a step backwards is not being negative, it's stating the obvious. Falling off a mountain half way up should not be expected. 8-4 is a slip...... 6-6 is a fall. And what is this nonsense about "transitioning?" We are in year FOUR of FBS membership The transition is over! That's my two cents.

Back to back losses, shitty and inconsistent play calling all season, defense not as strong, special team issues. This is not just a one loss and everyone is panicking, it's been tough to watch for the majority of the season, including victories.

App has great football tradition. That does not mean we can field a great team every year.

Are we not still playing with FCS-recruited players? Plus, the players that were being recruited in years 1 and 2 of our transition probably had reservations about coming on board because, typically it takes a while to be sucessful when one moves up. So, I'd argue that being in the 4th season still means we're transitioning.

See my other post. And to answer a poster prior about cleaning things up, we have seen the same issues game in and game out and they have not been cleaned up or corrected. the best predictor of future gains is past performance. That is what is scary. These are the wages of the "just get a win" mentality.

I don’t like this post. Spoiled? Seriously? I take that as suggesting we should know our place and be happy with consistent 6 to 8 win seasons and when we hit 9+ appreciate it for what it is. In the nearly 20 years I have followed App, anything less than 9 wins was considered a disappointment. After the last 2 seasons, I have no reason to expect anything different - esp while in the weak sunbelt. Yeah, injuries are unfortunate and are going to happen... given the health we have experienced the law of averages are catching up with us this season... but spoiled? I’m sorry, I don’t like that.

That Wake loss crushed this team and their expectations on the year, and the carryover impact has been severe.

Let’s get young guys playing time, get back to basics like tackling and finish strong.
