I'll be sneaking out of the office early and probably driving up alone...my family is on the fence with the Thursday night issue...but I'm coming either way. Can't even remember the last Ga So game I've missed in Boone.

Why did Watauga move down to 3A after being 4A all of these years? Has the Boone area population of 14-18 year olds dropped, are more kids going to an early college program or other alternatives? Of course, maybe they were near the bottom of the 4A classification in student population and more new schools in the state bumped them down to 3A. I was surprised to see this, though.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 06, 2017 9:04 pmHeading down Wednesday, almost 8 hour drive. I'll be there raising hell for sure! Also, Watauga has a playoff game (against Asheville) Friday night at home. Go Pioneers!! Go Apps!!! PS - Satt's son (Bryce) plays for Watauga, having a great season. He's only a sophomore.

Not really sure why, however, their conference is classified 4A/3A. The whole prep classification is confusing, back in "my day" the entire conference(s) were either 1A, 2A, 3A, or 4A period, no mixing.app97 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 07, 2017 11:03 amWhy did Watauga move down to 3A after being 4A all of these years? I have to pick up one of the kids from basketball practice at 6:15 and then drive over from Ashe. Should be walking in the stadium at kickoff.

NC no longer uses set sizes for assignment. They take enrollment of schools divide by 4 and make assignments. Early college and charter schools have affected the numbers.

Anyone ever been to the viewing party in Wilmington? I used to go if I couldn't get up the mountain in Winston Salem. I'm in North Myrtle Beach now.

During this last alignment, they took the top 20% as 4A, then 30% 3A, 30% 2A, and then 20% 1A. They have byes for the top teams in the 1A and 4A classifications because of this. I would assume where Watagua was in the top 25% before they weren't in the top 20%.

Re: Beat the Stink
Just as a reminder, as stated in a previous thread, we have a little announcement that is supposed to happen tomorrow. If we do so then it's a perfect time for it. We'll see.
