When we lose to Penn State next year, at least I'll know I can blame it on our coaches not getting the backup one garbage-time series against Georgia Southern 10 months earlier.
No actually the reason for the loss will be that we put them on the schedule. I say Penn State because it is the first game. It would apply to any first opponent. It only makes it worse that some poor kid will be thrown to the wolves for absolutely no reason. That 6 minutes did not have to be garbage time. He could have been allowed to run an offense with 6 min on the clock.
And that six minutes would have made a difference how?
It would have made no difference at all. I was just joking. Actually I believe you should never put a backup in at any position. It takes away the surprise factor when they are really needed.

I’m not arguing with you again because quite frankly, you can be exhausting. While I do get your point that any rep is a good rep, I would like to point out that garbage reps aren’t always necessary. Case in point. Former committ Zeb Nolan’s came off the bench for Iowa State yesterday and threw for 263 yesterday on 17 for 28 passing against Oklahoma State. He had thrown 10 passes all season with 9 coming against Kansas. I doubt that the five for nine performance three weeks ago was the catalyst to his performance.

In the last 10 games against Southern Georgia, App's record is 8-2.

In the last 10 games against Cullowhee State University, App's record is 9-1.

Is it safe to say Stink is close to achieving Whee status of irrelevance?

Just out of curiosity, has the rivalry with the Stink ever been skewed to their favor? What is their best record against us over a 10 game stretch?

never been that lopsided. My math may be off, but it looks like 6-4 is the best they have done over 10 games... which trails Whees 7-3 Vietnam era stretch.

I think EHApp is correct. 21 points is probably one point shy of when you bring in your backup with 6 min on the clock. The truth is we have not had a lead sufficient to get back ups experience this year. (sav. st the exception) Hope that changes in Atlanta.

We reloaded after Elder, Williams, Edwards and Presley. And I'm confident we'll reload after Lamb.
I liked Elder as a solid backup, but if I remember correctly, he was after Richie and got replaced early the next season by Armanti. But I agree with the point you are trying to get across. Besides, don't think it matters too much if our QB has playing time under his belt for the Penn State game or not.

It matters more or less for Charlotte and USM. We don't have our gimme game to protect us.

Just curious, are we going to ever get around to arguing about why Satt didn't pull Nunn and Gossett to get their backups some run? Or does this only apply to QBs?

BTW, total guess here, but I'd estimate there's almost a 50/50 chance that next season's starter either isn't on the roster yet or is redshirting. So even if we did get the backup a series here and there, there's no guarantee he'd be the guy taking the field next September.

Wasn't Elder at the helm of our second NC team? I remember him getting a TD and then getting an excessive celebration call for launching the ball into the crowd afterwards.

Elder scored a TD in mop up duty. AE was the man

Elder came in and scored late in our 3rd Championship game. Pretty sure it was AE all the way versus UMass.

That is exactly right. AE and KR played the whole game vs umass in '06. In '07, Armanti took it to the Blue Hens and Trey got a called qb keeper for about 50 yards in the waning minutes (much to his teammates approval).

I was wondering the same thing during the game. You can bet the coaches weren't going to leave TL in without the best protection. I thought they could've at least rotated CG and BN to ensure the right side wasn't completely new while getting another QB some looks.

You might be right about the OL next year but it would be a luxury for even the reserves to have some game experience in case they are called upon next year. To me, OL is the biggest question mark heading into 2018.

I'd argue DE and LB are just as big question marks. Sims, Fuller, Boggs, Stringer, and Townes are going to be tough to replace.

We lose 10 key guys that are playing significant minutes the remainder of this season. QB, OL 2, WR, DE 2, LB 3, S.

Good point on OL next year, but to clarify, my 50/50 comment referred to the QB.

That they will, but I think OL and QB are bigger question marks because we have experienced backups ready to move up on defense. I feel pretty good about Godwin, Willis and Taylor at DE; Davis, Fehr and Frizzell at LB; and Franklin/Exford at safety.

Much less certainty on the offensive side. I don't think any of us really knows who will be replacing Lamb, Gossett or Nunn, much less whether they'll be effective.

Turnover on the OL is always hard to predict because the recruits out of HS generally require more development before they're really ready (added size). It seems that recruiting for the OL has been better over the past couple of classes, so I'm hopeful we have some young talent in the wings. I'm hoping so at least.

Lets hope so. Best i can tell we only have 3 OL commits right now. Cannot tell if they are or how they are rated. Was hoping we would have a bigger haul.

If either Greer or Nuezil can flip from the left to the right then that will help with the game experience, albeit from the other side. Edge-Campbell will add depth.
