Of course the goal is to win every game. But here is the thing, you may not win every game and there are variables that go into the outcome that are more than X’s and O’s. As I have said before, 11-1 was possible with Meadors, Evans, Moore, Upshaw, and Adams. But in reality it isn’t remotely possible with Williams, Harrington, Hennigan, Williams, and Virgil. In case you haven’t noticed,a conference championship is all we have to realistically play for. NY6 Bowl is a goal, but it is a goal that isn’t realistic on a yearly basis. In order to have a shot at the holy grail, you have to win the conference championship. Next year we will be returning 7 starters on offense and the following year, we are probably returning 11. We haven’t fallen off as much as some of you want to beleive, but this 8-4 mentality isn’t good enough, despite the adversity, is pretty sad./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2017 3:18 pmNumber one goal is to win. That's always the top goal. Not just win enough to be Co-Champs. You may be content winning/sharing the Sun Belt with a 8-4 record, but that won't go far in the grand scheme of things.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2017 8:20 amCome on EastHall - the goals at the beginning of the season are totally irrelevant - we aren't going 12-0 and NY6 - we aren't going 11-1 and NY6 - What is always the #1 goal of any team is to be CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS - That goal is still there and within reach - You can look back all you want and downplay a shared conference title all you want and call it a consolation prize - but you know what --- they don't add an asterisk at the bottom of the Championship Trophy or the Championship Rings saying --- *Oh but you lost to UMass ---
Unbelievable --- please don't ever go into coaching ---

I'll add one more thought as an aside: While winning the Sun Belt title will probably never be at the top of my personal wish list before any season, one thing that would make it a bigger deal would be if the league could fix its bowl priority system. At least winning the league title could have some kind of ramifications there. When the league's supposed #1 bowl passes over co-champions for a local 6-6 team, that contributes to cheapening the conference championship.

I think we can look at circumstances as they develop over the season and reassess our priorities, but I hope we never have a mindset going into the season that 8-4 is good enough.

Re: Oh Ye - Of So Little Faith ---
I don’t think that any of us are saying that 8-4 should acceptable as the norm. But we should set expectations based on what we have at the moment. I think with a healthy Moore, Upshaw, Meadors, Adams, and Evans that we could very well be 9-1 at this moment. But without them we are 6-4 and could quite easily be 3-7. But we’re not. Thanks to coaching, recruiting, and the system.

Re: Oh Ye - Of So Little Faith ---
I started an entire thread a few days ago titled - IF WE KNEW THEN WHAT WE KNOW NOW --- I pretty much lay it out as to what what I saw as reasonable goals prior to the season starting and then how we would win our next 3 games hoping that would give us, at least, a share of the SunBelt Championship --- Did you not read any of the doom and gloom after last Saturdays game?
"Fans" who have so little faith in what the players and coaches could still accomplish this season irritate me ---

Sounds delicious, haha. Honestly got a good laugh out of that response, thanks.MDaniels84 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2017 11:16 pmf9580732ef44760eb0c857da7cc0804c.jpg
I know being the voice of dissent isn't popular, but someone's gotta do it. Otherwise this place would be all unicorns and rainbows all the time. What can I say, I've got high expectations. We should (and did) mud stomp an 0-8 team at home. Rivalry or not.

Re: Oh Ye - Of So Little Faith ---
Out of curiosity what would the Sunbelt championship game look like this year if it were in place this season?
It looks like the ga state v app game will decide the east if both teams win their remaining confrence games and that the stAte v Troy game is the same for the west. Could app beat either state or Troy this year to win it all?

Troy will be in the East next year along with us, Coastal, and the two Georgia schools.

Re: Oh Ye - Of So Little Faith ---
No reason to get into achieving goals or not at this point. This team needs to win out and then we can debate achieving goals or not. We have shown moments of brilliance over the season, but we've shown moments of the opposite more often. I think the pre-season hype from coaches and the media set all of our expectations that we were going to be really good. Everyone talks about Meadors and Evans, but i'm not so sure they really hurt us. Hennigan and Virgil have been terrific. Moore and Upshaw hurt us but even before their injuries, we weren't operating to the level of expectations that were set. Offensive line and defense have been the disappointments. But, like I said, let's see where we are after 12/4 and then debate success or not.

Hopefully, this is an energizing moment for the whole team. We should know that answer early in the game on Nov 25th.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2017 8:39 pmConsolation prize??? - ask the players ---

74 - I think you are totally correct with your statement - Anyone who has ever coached has had seasons where results were not meeting expectations - AND I AM NOT TALKING THOSE OF THE FAN BASE - the expectations of the coaches and team - and I can guarantee you that when winning teams/winning programs are given a 2nd chance to win a championship most times they grab it and run!!! - You are right about being able to tell with the next game, however it might not happen early on as GaSt sees this as probably their most important game ever --- It will be who has it in the 4th Q ---App74 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2017 7:35 amHopefully, this is an energizing moment for the whole team. App can only play the teams in front of them; no use looking back at the past. Suddenly the GaSt game has huge ramifications for the Belt Championship. Let's put all our efforts into supporting the Apps to kick the Panthers aside. Packing their new stadium with App fans would be a great start.
