First Time Attending App Game - Advice

Unread post by RaleighNCCCC » Thu Nov 30, 2017 1:18 pm

Hey folks, my wife and I decided to spend a long weekend in the Boone area and noticed App State has a home game Saturday (12/2/17). We have decided to attend and cheer on the Mountaineers.

A few questions regarding game day experience:

1) Is there accessible parking available without a parking pass?
2) Are tickets readily available? As in, are there typically people selling at the tailgate areas?
3) Anything cool you recommend us checking out during the tailgate / game?

I appreciate the help!!

1) over around king st is the best bet I'd say, private pay lots usually $20.
2) should be able to find them in our ticket exchange forum on here. Or should be people selling around entrances as well. Seems $20-$25 per ticket is normal right now.

They have a special through the main website currently for 4 tickets at $21 each (reserved seats).
http://appstatesports.com/news/2017/11/ ... -week.aspx

"App State Athletics is offering a special Championship Week ticket package to include four tickets for $84 ($21 per ticket) for reserved seats or four tickets for $64 ($16 per ticket) for general admission. Promo codes are 4FOR84 and 4FOR64."

The Episcopal Church at the corner of 321 and 421 (East King Street) has parking for a donation of any amount.

If you aren't looking to pay for parking, there is free parking at the big parking lot outside of Watauga Social Services, across from Galileo's. There is a free shuttle that runs from there to Raley Lot, which is one of the main tailgating lots, and close to the stadium. Not a far walk if you don't want to wait for the shuttle. Enjoy!

Do you mean Grace Lutheran or is there also an Epicopal church very near by as well. I park at Grace often myself. And is donation based.

That is not the Episcopal Church on that corner. The Episcopal Church is actually behind the one you can see from the highway. I think that may be the Lutheran Church, or maybe Methodist.

And, the reason I know this is that back in 1979 - 1985, the Episcopal Church (St. Lukes) actually sat on property on what is now the new Education Building. It was about a half a block down & across the street from the Baptist Church. At the time, it was a very small building, large enough to seat about 40 folks squeezed together. I attended some services there. The Rector was Fr. Chuck Blanck. When the church sold the property to ASU, they picked up that entire building & moved it back for use as a chapel to its current location behind that Lutheran - Methodist church, and built a larger building nearby.

I second this recommendation. Take the walk and enjoy the environment. I invite you to the Music Lot across the street from Raley. I recommend spot #7.

Welcome to App! It's always great to hear of new visitors to The Rock. We hope you'll become a regular. Bring a blanket or warmer layers of clothes, some gloves. Our football weather in Boone NC is great but you want to enjoy it in comfort! Make sure to watch/follow the Marching Mountaineers march through the Stadium Tailgate lot about 1:40 and be in your seats for the Pregame show at 2:05. App has adopted the same policy many college and professional venues has. There is a CLEAR BAG POLICY which limits the size of bags and purses that are allowed in the stadium. Go to Appstatesports.com if you have questions.
Lots of good food in town, I personally like Peppers which has been around for 40 years. AND--you game ticket gets you in FREE for the Saturday night men's hoops tilt against the South Florida Bulls. Hoops tipoff is 7 pm.
Have a great time! Go Apps!!

My wife loves the Jean Lawson at Pepper's. 40th Anniversary was last spring I believe (or was it two springs ago?) Either way, good food, local establishment, and owned by App alums.

My dad loved the French Onion Soup.

Mushrooms are a good APPetizer.

Man, I wish I could have Pepper's this weekend. :(

They're catering the Yosef Club room this weekend. Don't know what they'll have, but they're providing the food.

They allow tailgating also. We Lutherans don't get uptight about folks having a few beers.
