Football Conference Championship Count

Unread post by McLeansvilleAppFan » Sat Dec 02, 2017 9:12 am

If my research is correct a win today will be the 20th conference championships for the Mountaineers. To put this in perspective Notre Dame, the school of Rockne and Parseghian, has never won a conference championship.

App should be in top 20 conference championships all-time after today.

We're almost there.

#1 Oklahoma-46
#1 Nebraska-46
#3 Michigan-42
#4 USC-39
#5 Ohio State-37
#5 Florida A&M-37
#7 Tulsa-35
#8 North Dakota State-34
#9 Northern Iowa-33
#10 Texas-32
#11 Alabama-30
#12 Colorado-27
#13 North Dakota-26
#14 Grambling State-25
#14 Eastern Washington-25
#14 Louisiana Tech-25
#17 North Texas-24
#18 BYU-23
#18 Morgan State-23
#20 Clemson-22
#20 Miami (Ohio)-22
#20 UMass-22
#23 Eastern Kentucky-21
#23 Jacksonville State-21
#25 Minnesota-20
#25 Montana State-20
#25 Troy-20
#26 App State-19

If we share the championship with Troy, then we'll share the #26 spot with Montana State and Minnesota. Among current FBS/FCS teams, it's still top notch. A few more championships and we'll be top 20.

And Notre Dame has been independent most of their history.

Pulled the conference championship numbers from team's wikipedia pages. It's the total of all of a team's conference championships in their history.

That may be more accurate than what I was looking at. My info was a bit further removed from the source.
