Toledo fans on the MAC board are really displeased with this game. They'd rather be playing a P5 team, and not some lowly 8 win Sun Belt team. Nevermind last year's loss.

Not that App needs any bulletin board material from another fan base, but they're providing some.
Interesting to read there board. Seems their best defensive player and sack leader; Olasunkunmi Adeniyi, was ejected for targeting in second half of MAC Championship against Akron. He won't play in Bowl game until 2nd half.

I think it's different per conference, but in the Sun Belt, if a player is ejected, they have to sit out 2 full halves. If MAC is the same way, he may have to miss the whole game if he got thrown out in the second half...

Really the only guy they lost off of last years team was Kareem Hunt who is now playing with the Chiefs - I think we held him to about 120 yards ---
Don't forget that huge TE they lost. He was a beast.
I was thinking that big TE played for Akron? ---

Akron may have had one but Michael Roberts was a handful last year. Went to the Senior Bowl and was on the Mackey Award list for TE's.

That was the guy. I saw him in the NFL recently.

Too lazy to Google it right now, but I believe it's an NCAA standard rule:

Ejected in 1st half - miss rest of game.

Ejected in 2nd half - miss 1st half of next game.

You are correct. Maybe I am thinking of an old rule? Or maybe basketball? Or maybe just completely making it up and it's never happened (that is the most likely scenario).

We're without our best pass rusher in Sims the whole game, that evens it out to their favor actually.

Gee, looks like Toledo is going to be so disappointed at playing App State that they might not even show up for the game. And last time I looked, FAU was in CUSA, not exactly a Power 5 program of note. That said I do understand their frustration but it's not like they went undefeated, not even in the MAC.

Wow. I hope the Toledo team feels the same way.

If we would have won every game after Georgia and been 11-1, we probably would have wound up here and we would feel the same way. Even if we had gone to New Orleans, would a game against N Texas have made anyone feel better? I doubt it. That's the unfortunate world the MAC and Sun Belt are in.
If there was a wild-card fill in with one of the G5 teams that would be better, but I don't think the P5 teams want to play a G5 team. Look at all the bowl matchups and there are very few where a P5 "drops down" to play a G5 team.

As an App State fan, that article is bulletin board material. But if I take off my Black and Gold glasses, a lot of his complaints are similar to ones many of us have voiced about the Sun Belt's bowl process:

- No real priority for the conference champion.
- No opportunities to face P5s.
- No obvious rhyme or reason for which bowls get first picks in the selection order (i.e., more desirable location(s) pick far down the list).

As I've said before, it sounds like the author may have had some unrealistic expectations about where they'd go - the MAC has zero P5 opponent tie-ins - but hoping for a holiday trip to Boca instead of Mobile isn't unreasonable.

Honestly what I'd like to see is the top overall G5 conference champion get the NY6 auto bid, as they do now, then the other four get paired off in bowl games in destination/warm weather cities (e.g., Vegas, Orlando, NOLA, etc.).

I wonder if the Toledo fans also realize that there's a high probability of their losing this "un-desirable" bowl game? So, they're not happy with the bowl itself AND there's a good chance of losing...and they did have a good year.

However; and I haven't done a strength of schedule comparison, but at quick glance you see that they only played one P5, and lost, and we played two, and lost both but nearly beat one of them. Also, they have 11 wins but they had an extra game (the MAC championship game), which they won...BUT it was against Akron who was only 7-5 going into that game. In fact, two of their wins are against Akron. Granted we had two bad losses but it was when we were dealing with major injuries and pulling red shirts off freshmen to field a team...so I really like our chances and agree that this article is bulletin board stuff to add an element of motivation to our guys.
