Dollar General comments: ASU vs Toledo

This has an interesting take on the teams, bowl selection process, and how it worked out.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Wow...look at this stat from the article:

"MAC teams went 0-6 in bowls last year and are 14-39 in the past decade."

Does anyone have the Sun Belt's stats for this?

Todelo is upset that the MAC’s first pick bowl picked them. Say this out loud, ignorant.

Unless a MAC or SBC team beats a P5 and goes undefeated they should never complain about getting picked by the first bowl tie in of their Conference.

Maybe they don’t like that the bowl that has first pick isn’t appealing to their fan base and that they had no say in the process?

#BeatToledo

The best thing our 8-4 Sun Belt team can do is make sure the MAC goes 0-1 in Mobile in 2017.

That could be, but not how I read the article.

Or, going 4-0 against MAC teams since our move to FBS. :D

We shut Toledo up by beating them then we can complain about getting stuck playing MAC teams in 3 Bowls

When are these thick skulled Toledo people gonna understand that App State was not the number 2 team in the Sunbelt. Keeps coming up again and again. I hope we blast em off the planet on the 23rd. Sad thing is that it still won't shut their whining up. Not a Rocket fan.......I think they're getting to me.

The funny thing is if we beat them they will suddenly not refer to us as number two...they will switch over to referring to their loss to the “Sunbelt conference champions” to explain away the loss...

I have To admit that this bowl wasn’t my first choice either but it is what it is. Now I’m ready to pack a bus and stadium and whoop Toledo! We need to stay quiet in the press and go take care of business!!! Send lamb out on a high note!

If he's right and bowls are renegotiated in a couple years the SB should move one of the bowls out of Alabama. Maybe to Charleston. That would be better for App, GaSo, Coastal, GaSate. Along with Orlando we would have two easy travel destinations. Make NO the conference champion destination and get a better conference tie in than USA. Maybe a mid level P5 team. How cool is it for SoMiss to get FSU in a bowl game? I mean if your FAU do you want Akron or FSU? I know FSU is off this year but still I would take them over Akron.

I think toledo fans forget this game is on espn and for at least the first half theres no other football on. Lets show toledo how its done. Mobile will roll out the red carpet for us. Should be an absolute blast! Is everyone aware mobile is creole country ? So the food is appsolutely fantastic!!!

Hate to quote myself but want to say this is not intended to be negative of Mobile or Montgomery. Went to both Camellia bowls and I think Montgomery is a great host for the football game. I am sure Mobile will be awesome and I am glad we got that bowl vs Toledo. Just think something closer would give us a chance to travel 20 or 30k vs 8 or 10.

I think the date is more of a detriment than the location.

Mobile would be a lot more attractive IF Amtrak could restore service to Mobile. Still not back from Katrina a dozen years later with the Sunset Limited, and even better would be bringing back the Gulf Breeze and New York/Greensboro/Charlotte had a direct connection when part of the Crescent split off at Montgomery, AL.

Of the Sun Belt's 5 bowls, only 3 are even in the conference footprint. The Arizona Bowl is 900 miles from the nearest Sun Belt school (TxSt). The Cure Bowl isn't exactly centrally located either, but people around here seem to like the idea of traveling to Orlando. I can't say the same for Tucson, Az. Here are three locations I think would be top contenders:

Charleston, SC
The Medal of Honor Bowl, currently a college all-star game in Charleston SC, intended to become a Sun Belt tie-in. That effort died in 2016 when the NCAA placed a moratorium on new bowls until the 2019 season. Hopes for that bowl look less likely considering the Citadel's plan to reduce their stadium capacity to 15,000.

Conway/Myrtle Beach
Coastal Carolina's Brooks Stadium is currently expanding to seat 20,000. If you can put up with a teal field, there would be worse places to go for a bowl game.

Atlanta
Obviously in great proximity for the 6 SBC schools in Alabama, Georgia, and the Carolinas. It could be played in the Benz Dome, or the Pablo Picasso-esque stadium of Georgia State. The downside of playing here is that the Celebration Bowl, Peach Bowl and National Championship (on a rotating basis) are played here as well. There is something to be said for being the only show in town. Another negative is that the Celebration Bowl is played on the Dec 16th weekend, meaning a Sun Belt bowl could be pushed onto a weekday or closer to Christmas, which few of us want.
