Aside from arm strength, what others? Not arguing, just asking.

Thomas, Huesman, and Derrick all have a much better grasp on the playbook right now than Brown. But if Brown surpasses expectations in the film room, in the weight room, and on the practice field will the coaches delay the inevitable and go with a more experienced signal caller? We probably won’t know until September 1st in Happy Valley!

FWIW, I’ve heard from a few people close to the program that Satterfield and the coaching staff believe that Brown has a very realistic shot at winning the starting job.
I remember once upon a time we were coming off our first National Championship and losing our All Everything QB. But it was ok because we had Trey Elder, who was coming off some post season heroics. I was a student at the time, and I remember everyone was so excited for Trey to light it up. I had some friends on the football team at the time and they kept telling me about this left handed freshman who was crushing it every day. They kept telling me there was something special about him and he just needed a chance to show it. Well I remember the second half against the power house that is Mars Hill and being introduced to Superman. The rest is history.

The point here is let's see what camp holds, and maybe one of this young men just takes over and writes his own chapter in App State Football. I am so excited!

Just one point....I believe AE got a few snaps during the NC State game, but his introduction came in the second game against James Madison (not Mars Hill). Mars Hill was the third game and I believe AE's first start.

I didn't have an inside source with the football team, but as I recall it, when the signing class was announced, Coco Hillary was the name everyone was excited about at QB. Fans didn't even have AE on their radar during the Spring of 2006. Similarly, Georgia Fans weren't talking about Fromm a year ago either, other than being a strong backup. You just never know how things are going to develop.

Personally, I think we will be fine at QB as long as our OL develops and fill the gaps being left. It won't matter if the QB has a canon if he doesn't have time to get a man downfield.

I do like the ability to speculate in the offseason with what ifs but the real determining factor will be when they hit the live playing field in a real game, we will see who rises to the occasion or not. Do we have a guy that can step in like Tua Tagovailoa did for bama or not? It looks like the guys here before this year are similar in capabilities. Brown may bring another level to this group. Therefore, the key will be which or ones will be the real ballers who can lead a team and make the big plays when it counts. We can speculate but I don't think any of us can predict who that is at this point. Just like Tua, they are going to be thrown into to the deep end of the pool on Sept. 1 in front of 106k people at Beaver Stadium.

I think Moose agrees with me that the biggest concern is our OL and recruiting.....When Kilgore retires with all that money from SanFran I want him back as Oline coach and recruiter. AND I'd still like to see Acatelli back in Boone.

Those would be good staff adds one day but I have to say that I really like how Shawn Clark had our guys playing for most of last season. He is an App guy through and through and I am sure that our oline will continue to build depth as some of these younger guys get their chance in the deep end of the pool.

IIRC, Trey started the JMU game and got hurt. AE came in and did well. They split snaps with AE started versus Mars Hill (game three) and then at Gardner-Webb, AE solidified his spot and the rest is history.

Agree with the sentiment but Georgia fans were not sleeping on Fromm. My dad and his side of the family all went to UGA and most still live in the greater Athens area. At our tailgate with all my App buddies I was talking to my Uncle, a long time UGA booster, and said I thought there might be a chance that we could get into Eason's head early and whether that would be a factor. He looked at me and said if Fromm ever actually got into a game he'd never give up the spot. Evidently the word was out that the players respected his work ethic and played "harder" when he was in at practice. I told him after the Miss St. game I wanted a little extra money in my Christmas card for the service we provided.

Excited for the future of the QB position at app though. We've always thrived when we've had a gamer at the helm. Hope there is one in the group.

One thing to remember is that Scott's first year back (2012) Jamal threw the ball a ton. He has always played to the strengths of his QB as opposed to a defined system. Which is what makes him such a great offensive mind.

I second all of that as I also had previously conversed with numerous UGA fans and many were well aware of Fromm's talent. Remember he played in the Little League World Series and Georgia 6A football also playing numerous 7A (top level) opponents throughout his high school days. In high school football he had seen some top level opponents. He is used to playing in big games and is a baller, therefore the UGA fans believed he would deliver if he got his chance. Fromm got his chance and the rest is history. We would have probably been better off if Stout didn't give Eason that extra push and he stayed in the game.

I believe it was the week following the JMU game when Mickey Matthews pretty much told Jerry that he was crazy if he didn’t make AE QB1.

Working at practice everyday it is very clear that the battle for QB #1 is a two man race, not a four man race like many think, but honestly its Thomas's job to lose. Thomas and Huesman both have a strong arm but Thomas has just a little more mobility. Derrick and Stephon both have a long and I mean a LONG path of development to follow before they can even be considered for QB #1. It's not that the two aren't good QB's its just that they both still need a little time to work into the system. If Thomas can continue on the path he is on, without a doubt he will become another special player for App!

Same situation here with the family. My father was a Georgia alumn....as is most of my extended family. I didn't mean to imply anybody was sleeping on Fromm. Everyone knew he was a great recruit! Many were disappointed with Eason as a freshman, but most of the blame was being pointed at the OL...which was kind of valid for 2016. Most discussions of Fromm that I heard had to do with him replacing Eason next year if Eason didn't play better than 2016.

All that being said, we're on the same page about App's situation. I'm excited. I do think we have a lot of talent at the QB position and can't wait to see how things develop!

It will also be a totally different situation with the new starter as he will be "The Man" and along comes with that all the advantages and pressures of a starter. In the last two years with these guys it was totally TL's job and they were the supporting cast at best. Now one of them has to step up and assume the team leadership role. I am very interested in seeing another leader evolve. I hope Satt turns App into another QB development U where we just reload each year (that is obviously "hopeful thinking")
