I think they have to mean conference games given that we lost 4 games total last year. I think this is the conference record starting with our winning streak in the second half of 2014.appchicago wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 6:49 amHappy with the ranking, but “App has won 27 of its last 30 games”? Do they mean conference games?

Re: Orlando Sentinel
I get that these are only predictions from one source, but how is Troy still out there? They are replacing their four year starter at QB and their belll cow RB. And they lose 6 starters on defense. They set up very similar to us on offense. Good depth at receiver but will have an unproven commodity to throw it to them. One more returning offensive lineman than us. Defense seems to be a wash as well. Seems that they are going to be ranked higher than they should.

Re: Orlando Sentinel
It does seem a bit odd but they took out a ranked LSU last year. These pre-year polls have to take in last years results to some extent. If they lost about what we lost and return much of what we return BUT beat a ranked opponent last year they are going to move up a little I assume. What really matters is what happens at the end of the year when we play them. At that point these polls will not matter.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 7:28 pmI get that these are only predictions from one source, but how is Troy still out there? If they win until our game it will make our victory all the better.

Re: Orlando Sentinel
The Sun Belt board thinks they'll be ranked just in front of Alabama. I'm sure they'll measure up.

Re: Orlando Sentinel
How has the author's listing compared to the RPI and other polls that are not pure opinion at mid-season and end of season in year's past? Just how good of a predictor is the author? Anyone looked into this?

If you compare it to the Massey Ratings:McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Tue Jul 17, 2018 7:58 pmHow has the author's listing compared to the RPI and other polls that are not pure opinion at mid-season and end of season in year's past? Just how good of a predictor is the author? Anyone looked into this?
(Team OS Massey)
UNCC 125-184
Southern Miss 95-112
USA 99-134
stAte 64-90
ULL 118-140
Ga So 115-159
CCU 123-156
Tx St 128-180
Ga St 104-129
Part of this is that Massey includes FCS teams but, overall pretty different.

Re: Orlando Sentinel
I only thought there were 129 teams in FBS. Maybe, and call me crazy for suggesting this, but maybe Massey is also including FCS teams as well. Just a thought.

Re: Orlando Sentinel
OS is consistent in that he over rates the schools you listed. Would there be 26 FCS teams in front of AState. That seems a bit high of a number, though I am sure the top FCS is coming in higher than 64 out of 250 or so teams. I don't see that many FCS teams pushing that high. For every NDSU there is a whole conference of Davidson level teams.

Re: Orlando Sentinel
But have we determined that the Massey ranking to IN FACT contain the FCS teams?
OK, OK....I can admit it when I do something boneheaded. I'm getting quite used to it lately.
