Before we get all cocky...we are playing a decent defensive team (10 starters) in Charlotte after the trip to Happy Valley with our QB making his 2nd start. Upsets happen.
Thank you Captain Obvious!

I agree, after taking care of Penn State and enduring the hype that will come from that, we may overlook UNCC while looking forward to our home opener with Southern Miss.

We could lose to UNCC. It is possible. However, in all fairness, it would require a huge meltdown for our program to lose that game. I hope our team is hyped up to slaughter them like we did ODU in Norfolk. Remember all the pregame hype from ODU about how we were on equal terms, etc. etc. and they thought they would be the hunters in that game? Again, we have to bring our game but there should be NO reasonable reason why we should not drop the hammer on UNCC this year. I expect us to brutalize them and anything less will be disappointing.

Remember how hyped up CCU was to play us last year, we will be the hunted.

Just because they have 10 guys coming back from a *terrible* defense doesn’t mean it’s going to get better. Started all redshirt sophomores, juniors, and seniors along with 2 true sophomores - not like they were starting freshmen and sophomores. Not saying they definitively won’t get better but bringing back guys from a terrible defense doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll improve either.

By every advanced metric they were ranked in the 100’s for defense....which is pretty not good.

The Defensive Radars speak for themselves. (closer to the center is bad)

I haven't watched Charlotte play an entire game, and I wouldn't be qualified to evaluate their D even if I had. I do know that there have been some fairly recent years where App had a stout D, but their ranking dropped considerably because we were leaving them on the field too long. That's the danger of looking at metrics without imposing a context.

That being said, if App has trouble against Charlotte's D, I think it will be more because our Offense hasn't achieved what we are hoping and not because of a strong Charlotte Defense. I'd say we need to just take one game at a time and execute and we will be fine. I know....another Captain Obvious comment, which is an assessment that could be applied to most of the posts on any message board.

If we score fewer than 40 and they more than 14, I would consider that a moral victory for them. That is the only win they have a chance to come away with.

According to Massey, there is a strong likelihood we should finish 11-1. They have Georgia Southern at 2-9. Boy if that happened, they would turn on Lunsford and Sloan in a heartbeat.

Y'all need to remember we barely beat Texas St last year. Actually lucky to win.

Good point. I think that while we want to believe that we are reloading talent with talent, it is unproven talent. That may translate into losses to teams that we should beat.

I think a big part of the late season click and domination that App saw last year was the O-line and offense getting into a rhythm There is a pretty good likelihood of a similar experience this season. It's not just the 5 big guys up front gelling with each other, but they also have to get in tune with a new QB with new cadence, tendencies and strengths and weaknesses. That is a lot to overcome no matter how big, strong, fast, smart these guys are. I have high hopes for the talent and the coaching App will bring to the field, but September and early October could be touch and go for this team.
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”

I think it will be around the same as last year; 62.
