Terry Holland, the athletics director at East Carolina University since 2004, will step down from his position. He will move into an athletics director emeritus role after his successor is chosen, the school announced Wednesday.

Even if ECU was still in CUSA, we would have lost our only cheerleader in the conference after this.

Sunbelt or bust.

ECU might just find itself back in the CUSA because the Big East could be dissolved (not likely in my opinion). The 7 non FBS football Catholic schools in the Big East look to be moving away from the conference. They are not happy with the recent additions, especially Tulane, because of the weak RPI. A source claimed that the schools would have "gone off a cliff" had ECU been admitted as a full member. These 7 schools represent a large enough block to disband the conference in its entirety. I would think that they would only do that if the conference tried to balk on exit fees for the 7 schools. Either way it looks like those 7 will walk from the Big East. Here is a link.

Tough to say what they'll do.

I've seen reports that the A-10 wants them to join them--which would leave the Big East name and auto-bids with the football schools and the Catholic schools join a conference with auto-bids = win-win.

I've also seen reports that the Catholic schools would like to break off and invite other Catholic schools like Gonzaga, St. Mary's, etc. to join them in a new conference. And, somehow, the NCAA would allow this new conference to keep their auto-bids even if they didn't keep the Big East name.

The second seems the most likely to me as they may perceive the Big East name to have value. And, even if they don't keep the name, they will have a conference complete with only Catholic schools with basketball as THE sport.

Just heard reports on ESPN radio that the non-football schools of the Big East have indeed decide to leave the Big East. For where, they did not say, but its a done deal. Now what?

who the @#$#% knows, with the way collage football is being handled, we might end up anywhere from the Big South to the Big Ten.

Have to think Boise, BYU and SDSU will beg forgiveness and return to the Mtn West. If reports are true the Mtn West may pull in SMU, Houston and Tulsa. Considering the real possibility of UConn going to the ACC do they bring in 1, 2 or 3 schools? IMO, any movement will create slots and is good for ASU.

I don't see how any of this affects the Sun Belt conference. We are talking about the lowest conference on the FBS totem pole. None of the teams that are moving around will be looking in that direction. The only affect I can see it havng is ASU thinking twice about the Sun Belt in the hope that a slot somewhere else will open up and we have been down that road so....

if nothing else we could pull a TCU and accept an invite and bail on it for a hypothetical "better" (not that there is one, sans a bcs offer) invite

I am going to the DIV III Nat Championship tonight where everyone knows where they are today, where they will be next year, and most probably will be in 10 years and are happy with it.
Next year wherever we are I'll be there and I am just not going to worry about it. Having been to our three NC and tonight will be two Div III championships, I hope we get one more shot at it before a possible move. In the interim I am going to watch some basketball.

I just wonder if this had anything to do with the pending collapse of the Big East and him not seeing it coming. The grass is greener but these guys are paid to predict a drought..

I wonder if the BE will offer ECU full sports membership now?

Wouldn't doubt ECU getting an all sports inite. Could see them doing it in basketball, but maybe not all sports, just some.

Sounds like the continuation of nBE football is on solid footing after the departing schools statement today. One sentence was telling:
"While we pursue this opportunity for our institutions, we believe the efforts of the past two years have established the foundation for an enduring national football conference."

If I was CIN or UCONN I would be upset. Their bb all programs just took a nose dive. This can only help things for App as none of the schools in play are going to the belt. This will only open spots in CUSA, MAC and the belt.
