Re: 28.5, I'll take App State
I was just thinking this morning that I haven't been this confident going into a game against a P5 team since the LSU game...and that was a 28 point defeat. That game taught me to temper my expectations going into these games. However, that was 10 years ago and we were a FCS 63 man team with presumably lesser talent. I am disappointed whenever we lose, so if we lose, I will be disappointed even if it was expected, but I won't be worried unless we get mud-stomped by 28+ points.

I’ve not heard anything good or bad about our QB play......it concerns me.

When in the last three years has Satt really disclosed anything is a questionable area for us.
Zac has gotten first team reps all summer, with the talent I know we have at QB I'm taking that as a good sign.

Satt says he's going to put ZT through the ringer to prepare him for the starting position and opener. I imagine this means crowd noise through the speakers, maybe running 2's/3's on the O-line against the D-line 1's to simulate a top 10 pass rush.
ZT is a much better athlete with a fraction of the wisdom (at this point) of Lamb. I can see him starting the season with 150 more yards than Taylor Lamb would have in a given game, yet with 1.5 more interceptions. On the whole I see this offense as much more explosive, yet less dependable.
Also keep in mind that our rushing attack is our bread and butter and ZT isn't going to change that. We could have Tom Brady and still rush for 350 against Penn State.

Re: 28.5, I'll take App State
ESPN is listing the spread at 23.5 . . . not sure that 5 points makes a whole hill of beans difference though.
In 2017 Georgia opened as only a 12 point favorite, easily covering the spread at 31-10. The Dawgs then went on to play in the National Championship.
In 2016 Tennessee was a 21 point favorite which App State covered the spread but lost in OT 20-13. Tennessee hasn't recovered from the close call since.
In 2015 Clemson came in as a 17 point favorite and rolled to a 41-10 beating. Clemson went on to play in National Championship.
Not sure what this game will say about App State's season, but 2 out of 3 beatings have lead to losing to Alabama in the National Championship. . . if Penn State covers a 23.5 or 28.5 spread then I hope they do at least as well as 2015 Clemson and 2017 Georgia.

Re: 28.5, I'll take App State
Just to recap our stats versus UGA last year:
Rushing yards - 136
Passing - 148 21-32 passes
3 down 7-18
+2 turnovers
Rush defense - 221
Pass defense - 147
3rd down 4-15
I'd love to replicate both 3rd down numbers. I see us giving up 40 fewer rushing yards, but allowing 80 more passing yards. We rush and pass for slightly more versus Penn State, but lose the turnover battle.

If we rush for 350 against Penn State it's going to be a long season for them. 150 more realistic IMO.Gonzo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:30 amSatt says he's going to put ZT through the ringer to prepare him for the starting position and opener. Re: 28.5, I'll take App State
Penn State is right where UGA was last year. A great QB in the Armanti mold and the best talent Franklin has had since he took over. Again with all our losses at LB, O-line, and QB I remain hopeful but not optimistic that we will show up that well this weekend.

From what I've been reading run defense is their #1 concern for 2018./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:59 amIf we rush for 350 against Penn State it's going to be a long season for them. 150 more realistic IMO.Gonzo wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:30 amSatt says he's going to put ZT through the ringer to prepare him for the starting position and opener. Re: 28.5, I'll take App State
In my opinion APP had better individual talent going into the LSU game than PSU, if we use the metric of players spending time with the NFL. Depth, we didn't have then, but we had some of the best players of our program's history.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 8:59 amI was just thinking this morning that I haven't been this confident going into a game against a P5 team since the LSU game...and that was a 28 point defeat. Maybe it wont be like the VaTech game, that was embarrassing.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 10:29 amPenn State is right where UGA was last year. Re: 28.5, I'll take App State
There are so many questions on both teams that you could almost pick a number and justify it. I know Penn State is a big favorite in this game, but I'm hoping we surprise some folks.
I'm actually more concerned about the OL rebuild than I am about QB. I think we have a lot of talent on the roster at QB, but that won't matter if they aren't getting protected. I'm not really questioning the talent at OL. I'm saying I just don't have any feel at all there.

Re: 28.5, I'll take App State
I was at the scrimmage 2 weeks ago and have saw first hand what they are throwing at ZT. Blitzing multiple safeties, corners, etc. Throwing any look at the Oline and QB.
He looked really good for the most part especially the arm talent.
