FLORENCE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM

For my High Country friends, don't pooh-pooh Florence. Data and forecast track suggest a real problem "might" unfold for the High Country region late in the weekend and Saturday; for that matter pretty much all of NC.
Get a mental plan in place. Consider going ahead and stocking up on some non-parisable items today and Monday. Medicines for you and your pets, pet food, non-electric can opener etc. Ask yourself, "How would I get buy if we lost power and roads were affected for a few days?".
Always good to have cash on hand as well. Should power go, ATMS and card check out scanners, won't work.
Just wanted to post, to raise some awareness up there. You can find me on Spectrum News if you have cable. A busy week ahead.
University folks should be reviewing plans for student / faculty and staff safety. Should that button need to be pushed later in the week.
What all of this will mean for the first home game of the season, I don't yet know. But, given data today, that game being played might be in question.
As of this post, Sunday, 2:45 PM. Nothing is yet a lock regarding the exact track of the storm. Ever hopeful the Atlantic High will weaken and allow Florence to scoot along the coast. But, for now, that doesn't appear likely.
So, please stay aware of forecast tracks, and any preparation the local EMA folks may disseminate.

Good post WXAPP. I will echo those sentiments and plans and do it without delay. I have been a firefighter for 32 years and going on the same for being a paramedic. Plans should be made immediately. Pretty sure Firemoose will back me up on this.

Screw safety, I just want to make sure we draw more in Boone than Charlotte draws hosting next week. Not that this should be a problem...but they are already making excuses for a drop in attendance.

As a resident of the Brunswick County/Wilmington area, things are getting tense around here. I really hope it doesn't strengthen to the level predicted or it somehow veers out to sea but it's looking bleak.

Hugo'esq... this will be it's own beast. Unlikely a Cat 1 like Hugo was as it roared into Western, NC. But, this could produce rainfall amounts the lead to more landslides and such for the mountains. Still time for a turn, we'll see. But, I just want my fellow Mountaineers getting prepped. Rather safe, that not.

Beav910 yeah, you all need to be in prep mode now. I hear UNCW will start voluntary evacuations on Monday. Please monitor your local media for any evac orders for the public at large. Those are coming at some point in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Im in Little River SC and we are making plans to get out once the order is issued. Car gassed up and ready to go.....We'll have our USM game tickets with us....

Watching very intently here in Calabash.
People shouldn’t wait on evacuation orders. If you know your vulnerability and monitor the weather you should leave when you feel the need. Chances are you may get out ahead of the crowd.
This storm is no joke and could be very intense at landfall.

Coastal canceled classes on Tuesday. They're supposed to host Campbell on Saturday. That might be moved or called off.

UNC-W having voluntary evacuation beginning at 12 tomorrow, with classes cancelled after that. They cancelled some sporting events as well.

I am guessing that if things continue on current path(s), we might be getting info by Wednesday as to IF our game will be played on Saturday... Perhaps Jeff (WXAPP) can give us thoughts on SUNDAY weather to see feasibility of moving game to then.

thanks for starting this thread w/ good info WXAPP.
Was Hugo positioned in same place as Florence currently? Read on Sunbelt board that since 1851 from this current position no hurricane has made landfall... That can’t possibly be true, could it?

I think you can change this post title to “will be” a problem.
As of today, I can’t imagine a forcast worse for our state, Raleigh, or, and of a lower priority, the game. With that said, if this game gets cancelled, i will be highly disappointed, was really looking forward to payback.

There's a lot of talk that the storm will stall over NC after landfall, which will make a bad situation worse.
Campbell at Coastal, WVU at NC State and UCF at UNCCH are looking like no-gos.

I heard if the TV station says the game is on, then the game is on...has anyone heard anything similar to this?
