Surprise wouldn't be too out of line if this is true. Scott doesn't appear to be letting his friendship with DJ get in the way. But I've got to wonder where the money is coming from and what this means for the new O coach. We know that SS has said he is hiring an O coach but position is kind of unclear. Unless DJ takes a pay cut from his current contract then Blalock's isn't enough for a DC. Got to pony up a little more for that. Maybe part of what SS was making will go towards a new DC if he is keeping the OC title and hiring a QB coach as the new O coach. (although it has been stated on another board that it is an OC that Scott is hiring) And now I have a headache.

Ha, was just about to post this myself! Best case scenario would be to keep Jones on as LB coach and bring in an experienced DC. Not sure how happy he would be about the demotion but he is an excellent position coach. Happy to see that SS is acting swiftly.

I hope Jones would agree to stay on as LB coach. I'm sure SS has some idea of who he would like to bring on board as DC as well as on the offensive side. Things are getting interesting very quickly.

Remember Scott took Jerry's salary, so Scott's old salary as "OC" is still on the table for someone. I know they will have to add a little $$ to it, but there is money out there already.

I sent an email to Cobb and SS with a statistical breakdown of our D. Stats don't lie. Hopefully they see a change is needed.

Good to see that Satterfield is taking the bull by the horns. Can't wait until next season.

I am impressed! Obvious he had a lot of say in the new guys brought in earlier in the year and this is another step to remake the program into what he desires. Hard to believe Jones and Sloan are the only ones left from just two years ago.

This is indeed good news. Next season can't begin soon enough.

I'm excited we have a guy that is taking control and is doing what's necessary to better the program. We haven't had a good defense since 2006.

SS - HC
OC/QB - TBA
DC/DL - TBA
LB - Dale Jones

Hopefully the money will add up. Scott is making 10K less than Jerry, so that will barely help. We'll see.

Also, it's a different game than the power-I days of the 90's. Obviously the defense is out there a lot more possessions with the style of offense we run today. Giving up 28 points today might be like 14 back then. But there are plenty of other stats that point to our miserable defenses the last 6 years. When is the last time we could get pressure with our front 4? And we don't blitz. I sure miss the days of dominant ends like Jeffries, Stovall, Hunter and Murrell.

With Deuce and Blair, I think we could have an DE tandem like Hunter and Murrell were. We're just running the wrong scheme to take advantage of their talent. Neither of them are true 3-4 DE and we don't have any true 3-4 DT's either. so maybe this is a signal that we're going back to the 4-3 which we have had plenty of success with

IMO, Jones did suffer this year through losing so many starters, but he didn't make the right adjustments when he could. Wylie, who was maligned at times for his defenses allowing so many yards, did make adjustments during games and got turnovers.

I do think the 3-4, compared to the 4-3, was a failure.

I'll be happy with a DC who can teach secondary players to find the ball in the air.

If we keep his salary where it is (which I think we should), he'd be getting paid the same amount for doing less work and having less responsibility. Unless a better job/better pay comes along, he might just take that option. There are worse things than getting paid the same to do less.

Why do you think we should keep his salary the same? If you underperform at work and they cut your hours/demote you, would you honestly expect to maintain the same level of pay? If so, can I get an application?

As he's already got a contract, it doesnt make much diference. I bet he stays out the contract and is gone after next year.

But, if his contract is longer than just next year, his salary is about right for alot of good position coaches anyways, expecially if we jump to FBS.
