Re: App vs USA opening line
To me this can go either way. I do expect to win, but its hard to guess based on our season so far.
We could win by 30 or it could be really too close for my liking.

With the multitude of weapons Satterfield has to work with I don't see this game being close...unless they start looking ahead to Ark State and they don't focus on this next game.

Our guys will take this game very seriously. USA has played us tough and I will hope for but be surprised if we beat the spread. We should win even if it is close though

Re: App vs USA opening line
We will get our points. We have a very potent offense and have the sample size to confirm. I feel the sample for defense is inconclusive, but there are a lot of positives that can be deducted. Penn State scored a lot of points on us (38 in regulation), but they followed that up with 51, 51, and 63 and probably called the dogs off in those games and could have scored more. We pretty much shut down Charlotte and GW, but they stink. Both teams moved the ball between the 20's at times, but App gets stingy in the red zone. What I have seen is that they keep everything in front of them. They make teams play near perfect for long drives to score. I don't know that anyone in the SunBelt right now has that capability to score enough to keep up as I don't think anyone can stop us.

Agree, and our defense has had a "bend but don't break" mentality for a while now which allows more movement until the red zone.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 11:20 amWe will get our points. The ESPN FPI is a statistical model that has been fairly accurate but doesn't take into account other intangibles.

Re: App vs USA opening line
It is up to 26 points on ESPN now and gives us a 95.5% on the matchup predictor for South Alabama. I don't get it, we were only like a 12 point favorite for UNCC.
Also, we need to do the Appa-LATCH-Un chant a lot this Saturday to teach the South Alabama coach how it is correctly pronounced.

I honestly expect us to cover once again. App by 30. Offense, Defense, Special Teams are special!!!

Re: App vs USA opening line
Over the last few weeks I've got the sense that Satterfield caught a hefty whiff of something special with this team. Think about the positive vibes around this team since the Penn State game--the UNC talk with Satt, the weekly Penn State love towards App, the smashing of UNCC, Southern Miss seemingly being afraid to play us, smashing GW, and top 25 votes. As predicted, this year is a new chapter in App State's FBS rise... The future is bright my friends and opening conference games such as this are a perfect platform to make a statement. Let's get it!

This has shootout written all over it to me. We need to cover the short pass game.
Offense will score at will. If we hold them to the 20’s or less we cover the spread.

Re: App vs USA opening line
Agreed on the fact that this team is undoubtedly the most talent we've seen on an entire App squad at one time..ever. Are we worthy of this top 25 vote talk, top 5 G5 team, being penciled into the Sunbelt CC game coming out of the east side?? These next games are going to show me what we really have with (USA, @Ark St, @Stink). We've basically been playing video games with UNCC and GWU. As impressive as we've looked I want to see us do it against the toughest competition on our schedule.

I think Satterfield and other coaches remember very well what happened in Boone last time USA was here, during our transition to FBS. They'll use the outcome as motivation.

Yeah, just saw App -25.5 on ESPN. That's the same line that Clemson has over Syracuse. (And I while I think both favorites win, I don't know if either covers.)

Re: App vs USA opening line
I get nervous before the kick off of every game. I always have even back to being one of the drunks on the front row in KBS in the early 90's. I will not be surprised to still feel nervous deep into the second quarter. I think SoBama holds it tight scoring a couple TDs in the first half, but the depth of the App State team, especially on the defensive front, takes over the second. I think the good guys will win, but they may scare us for a bit first. I doubt App covers the spread in the end, but carries a W into next week.
“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”
