Train Whistle....
Re: Train Whistle....
My wife and I are the middle pair of 3 generations of App grads. My parents met at App in 1934 and had their first date on Tweetsie. We will enjoy the whistle at future games and think of them.

Re: Train Whistle....
We sit (or stand mostly) in Section 216 right next to the recruits for the week. I wish I had a picture of their faces as the Mountaineers entered the field from Sean Connery, to the band, to the smoke, the fireworks and the train whistle. Actually saw one recruit turn to several others and say something to the effect of "WOW! That was awesome". If we get that reaction pregame KEEP IT and TURN IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's such a cool story, thanks for sharing. I must say that 3 generations of Mountaineers is pretty impressive!walt75 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 11:31 amHave been a follower for a long time but have just registered to give this response. We also enjoyed the whistle at the game Saturday. Just a little more history. My wife and I are the middle pair of 3 generations of App grads. My parents meet at App in 1934 and had their first date on Tweetsie as a day trip to Tenn. When they were still with us they loved returning to Boone as often as they could. Look forward to the whistle at future games and remembering!

Re: Train Whistle....
I like that idea a lot. Lets anyone around that side of town know App just scored. Not that I'm a fan of the Cubs but blasting that train whistle from the bell tower would feel a little bit like their victory flag for passers by on the train.Boone Goon wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 10:57 amMaybe one day, we add the sound to the Bell Tower/steam plant and at Trivette so it sounds like it's coming down Rivers Street and up the Stadium Drive into The Rock!

Re: Train Whistle....
I do like the history of the train whistle but I feel like the sound clip they used was a little hokie. an actual train whistle would probably cost about as much as a games worth of fireworks and then we'd have it for good.

I worked at Tweetsie from 03-05. I remember being in the depot, cracking a random book and reading a quote from the (then) mayor of Banner Elk shortly after the ET&WNC depot was built saying "I remember when the only way to get to Boone was to be born there". Clearly taking a little jab at Boone and highlights how astonishing Boone's growth has been.
